ring wire question

Hi

I have removed the ring wire from the sockets and it has improved my speed. Looking at all the tutorials it says u just need wires 2 and 5. what are these for? is one for the phone and one for the modem? if so, if i only have a modem using the socket, could i improve the speed further by removing 2 or 5?

hope that makes sense, and i hope I'm posting in the right area.

Thanks,
James.

Re: ring wire question

Basically, you need 2 wires to complete an electrical circuit. If you remove either of the remaining wires, neither your phones nor your modem would connect.

Regards,

Felix
