Max is faster in vmware than in XP eh?

Hello all.
I've registered specifically to find out if anyone else has discovered this. We're on the max package here and neither myself or my flatmate could get past about 7M of a theoretical 16 (that's on 2 different machines). Being how I'm literally one road from the exchange that puzzled me.
If I use DownloadThemAll, a Firefox extension, it whizzes along giving me insane download speeds compared to if I don't...
Now here's the really weird bit... I recently installed Ubuntu running in vmware within XP. If I visit speedtest.net via the ubuntu vm I get a max speed of 13089kb/s versus the 7743kb/s in XP itself...
Both run via the same wireless adapter so this has me foxed.
Any ideas how I can persuade XP to speed the hell up?
Al

You could try running TCPOptimiser from the link below. Also don't believe everything speedtest.net tells you, it can be very erratic with it's results.

Woohoo! That worked! Ah that's a brilliant tool. I'll tell my flatmate about that later on too. Cheers very much!
