Sky Connect - 135k DOWN 380k UP

Hi there,

About a week ago my downstream speed dropped to approx 130kbit according to speedtest.net, and I do get actual download speeds of 12 to 20 KB/s.
What's weirder is that my upstream has remained unchanged.

I have previously got a steady 400KB/s and thats what I expect as I'm quite a distance from my exchange.

The peculiar thing is that the router is syncing quite happily at these:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4896 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.0 db 27.0 db
Noise Margin 8.3 db 22.0 db

I've set the target Noise Margin to be 8db to keep it quite fast but also error free.

speedtester.bt.com isnt working properly at the moment so I dont get to the final results screen, but I am getting this after putting in my ADSL login:
"The Performance Tester is now testing Broadband connection. Your configured download throughput speed for this service is 135 k"

All sounds a bit fishy to me, I don't have noise issues on my line, I've got high spec sockets and cables from adslnation, but my downstream is a joke.

What do you folks reckon, I've been cut down for over use?

Cheers!

This sounds like either there is a fault on your line or your line has been capped. Have you rang Sky?

Re: Sky Connect - 135k DOWN 380k UP

this sort of issue normally happens for 3 days after a line fault (where sync speed stays high but IP profile is low) as BT throttle a connection to make sure it's working...over a week and it sounds like a stuck profile so you'd need Sky to get on to BT...

Re: Sky Connect - 135k DOWN 380k UP

Just been on the phone to Sky, I believe they are now contacting BT and I await a callback.

I did finally manage to get a test run at speedtester.bt.com and this confirms the above posters idea:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 4896 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 103 kbps

mickyb_777:
Actually your problem is totally different.

Anyway, back to my experiences. It's been an hour and I've had no call back. How annoying.

My BT line was repaired saturday morning after a broken connection developed in the junction box on the telegraph pole outside, so I'm going to wait until tomorrow (+3 days from the repair) and hope that BT automatically release my IP profile.

Shame the BT engineer didn't mention this to me, also a shame that Sky neglected to ring me back.

Re: Sky Connect - 135k DOWN 380k UP

Sky will be waiting on information from BT, it is very rare that call backs happen within the hour, most are next day/ within 72 hours as it can take that long to get the relevant information back from the parties in question and ascertain what has happened.
