what is your best guess

hi all, first time poster although i have been reading for a long time.

I have some router stats and just wondered what you can tell from them? i am approx 750m from the exchange as the crow flies.

System Up Time 00:41:14
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 23833 36950 0 898 20670 00:40:45
LAN 10M/100M 302 0 0 23 0 00:41:11
WLAN 11M/54M 37734 25075 0 20881 1071 00:41:03

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8000 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.0 db 18.0 db
Noise Margin 11.3 db 24.0 db

Just to give you some info, my download speeds average at about 60kbps and the speedtester.bt.co.uk site says my ip through put is 691kbps and my IP prfile s 7000kbps.

just to let you know i have tried using TCP optimizer but to no avail. The only time i download anything fast is at 6am. I actually downloaded the btopenworld.com/speedtest 15mb file at 850kbps. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HIT THAT SPEED! i was amazed.

Hope you can all help, i can't play my online game through this shoddy connection.

Thanks in advanced

You are pretty much at top speed for your connection, if on Connect.

What's your speed test results from our tester?

Re: what is your best guess

update, the Customer Solutions Team are running a PTTRA (performance tester test results analysis) based on 3 results from speedtester.bt.com

i am getting between 600kbps and 740kbps no matter what time of the day i try although i have had 7000kbps twice but that was 5.30 in the morning.

i am so annoyed, the Customer Solutions Team keep telling me that my line is fine. eventually the support operators agree there is a problem but i need to do some tests over time and have to call them back. the problem is that only a minor few know of this PTTRA test and they cant help. According to mark (customer solutions guy) this test is only used in minority of cases where there appears to be no fault but download rates are still extremely slow. my average download speed is 70kBps on a good connection and 30 on a slow server!

rant over, hopely someone has some comments that will help me

Re: what is your best guess

Another victory for BT

There are probably more problems with BT Connect than all the LLU lines put together. 9 out of 10 times the problems with LLU are down to internal wiring, with Connect it is BTs complete disregard for Sky's customers.

Re: what is your best guess

i agree, LLU would be ok. But the women on technical support actually sold me BT. She was saying how bt will be faster because they have their own equipment wired at the front of the exchange and all other ISP'S at the back.

In the end i got fed up with ringing every 2 days to chase something or try sorting it out. i lost my temper and asked for my MAC. Once through to cancellations they did not offer me anything to keep me purely because i was so annoyed and i had had so much trouble!

the biggest thing that wound me up wth the last lady i spoke to, she blamed my PC for being too slow. even after telling her its a custom build quad core with 8gb of ram (dual boot with 64bit vista, used for mathematical modelling) and SLi cards she said she was unsure if my comp is cabable of processing the information as quick as the broadband could provide it.

MAYBE if sky go LLU'd in my exchange i'll swap back!

That is complete rubbish. Sky, or any other ISP, do not have their own DSLAM for ADSLMax, it is all connected to BT's equipment. The difference is in the set up side.If you get ADSLMax through Sky, BT don't give a **** whether it is set up right or not. If you are direct with BT they will make dammned sure it is.

Edit - the **** was not the F word or any other I would consider indecent.
Edit 2 **** it in the air, just trying something
