Re: Router says one thing but speed test sites say different?

This is my result

Your DSL connection rate: 2496 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 108 kbps

what does this mean? i thought, as my router is receiving a speed of 2496kbps, this is my internet speed?

It means your line has the wrong profile! This means your speed is restricted to 135kbps. You must phone Sky and if the T1 operator does not understand what you are taking about insist that you be put through to the CST. I have to emphasise that Sky cannot do anything about this except get on to BT who will correct it.

I would advise using the KANA form as well as phoning and copy and paste the results of the test into the forum. This ensures that it will eventually get to the right person.

Re: Router says one thing but speed test sites say different?

thansk for your help. sky have now noticed that its an incorrect set up some how & said they have now increased my allowance at the exchange to 2mbs. i had this for all of one day & it now says my ip profile is 500kbps, yesterday it said 250kbps.

also, i noticed that my phone is only cutting the broadband off every now & again. when my downstream is 2400kbps, the internet seems faster, when my phone cuts it off & it finally re-connects after about 3mins, my downstream is 440kbps. if i reboot the router, it goes back to 2400kbps.

strange.

Keep power-cycling your router every night for a week and see what happens. I think your line may have been set to retrain and your speed will gradually increase over the next few days, provided it is forced to resync with the exchange.

Re: Router says one thing but speed test sites say different?

im now getting speeds of 1.6 to 2mb & the BT tester site is showing my IP profile at 2000kbps.

Re: Router says one thing but speed test sites say different?

You should do a bit better, but hopefully, if it works as it should, you speed will increase if your line stays stable.
