SKY = Poor Ping = Poor Gaming

Hi Gents another forum sent me your way.

I have just moved from Plusnet to SKY Mid and found that my ping has doubled, get frequent disconnects and my upload speed is erratic.

Overall I am getting a better DL speed but I need a good ping for online gaming on my PS3.

Re: SKY = Poor Ping = Poor Gaming

Do a search for reducing max delays and follow the advice there for a reduction in pings. If you can connect the ps3 via ethernet, its ultimately better than wireless, if you cant try experimenting with different wireless channels, a neighbours may be interfering with yours.

Re: SKY = Poor Ping = Poor Gaming

Try taking your stats from the Test socket. Your connection speed and noise margin look a bit low for such a low attenuation.

Regards your ping have a look at this thread and links-
If you have poor pings on Sky Broadband

Ouch. With that set of stats you should getting the full wack + a nice high Noise margin.

Could you please plug your router into the test socket and provide us with some comparison stats?

To elaborate on "isitme"' the test socket is directly behind the faceplate of the first socket to enter the premisies (Called the master socket).

Re: SKY = Poor Ping = Poor Gaming

Awesome lads thanks for the feedback. I will hang off contacting SKY until I get some more information and facts from you to state my case.

I will try the test socket tomorrow and redo my stats.

Re: SKY = Poor Ping = Poor Gaming

You appear to have a fault on your line. With your attenuation you should be connecting at over 8000kbps and still have a healthy noise margin. Do you have noises on your phone line. Plug a corded phone into the test socket and dial 17070, option 2. You should not hear any noise on the line.

As things stand, if Sky reduce your delay, there is a good chance they will also reduce your connection speed to stabilize the connection.

Thanks.

I was under the impression that taking the mid package was up to 8mb so I suppose I should be happy with that. What I do have concerns over is my ping and upload speed. More and more ps3 games are based on p2p so either one of these factors can severely hamper the performance.

I have also noticed more and more disconnects. The router lights are all on but the pc will suddenly lose connection. After a couple of pc and router re-boots it seem to connect again.

I will go try the phone test.

Re: SKY = Poor Ping = Poor Gaming

Ask Sky to reduce your Max_Delays using the Kana form. It will improve your Pings no end, normally.
