Oh yes, I used TCPOptimiser a week ago. It's difficult to say what impact it had as at the time I was having so many problems with disconnects and was not familiar with the speed tests. The connection seems to be behaving itself better now (touch wood) and I'm not really complaining about the speeds. I just don't understand why three different services purporting to be doing the same thing (measure connection speeds) give such drastically different readings.

I notice a huge difference in speed test results between wired and wireless, Currently router is on secondary phone socket in my bedroom, wired to my PC it gets results of 6 meg, my brother in his bedroom uses our laptop and he gets speed test results of 2 meg and he uses wireless, I expected a slight difference in result but a 4 meg difference. I am staying wired for now I suggest others do the same, lot less cut outs as the predecessor to this router was known for its wireless issues.

Had download figures in the 800s until running tcp utility, now getting 5-9000. Even wireless laptop (802.b) getting 4500.
Much happier.

I have even tried the TCPOptimizer that was recommeded and nothing has changed?

It is your connection speed that is the problem. You are downloading at the right speed for the connection, it is just that the connection is so slow. Are you using your master socket? Try rebooting the router and get your stats again. Does your connection speed improve?

thanks for the reply.

Yes, I'm connected to the master socket.

Just rebooted the router (switched it off at the plug socket , right?) and my speeds have improved. But they are still nowhere near the 4meg i was getting?

any other ideas?

Do you have a modern master socket? If so could you remove the face plate and plug your router in to the test socket behing the faceplate? It may be worth calling sky to see if they have capped your line for any reason.

am i doing anything wrong?

ive ran the optimizer, it has bumped my speed up a little but not alot.
i put the bar to the highest position and rebooted.
im on 8mb broadband but only getting around 1.3mb.
you mention also changing the settings on my router to the same on the bar, this may sound stupid but how do i change the settings on my router?
