Full list of tests done, most recent first (nice feature of the site, although there is a test there from January. Re-used IP addy ftw )

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

Been having some really poor speeds recently when surfing the net. Web pages loading slowly and youtube videos buffering a lot. The strange thing was I was getting great speeds with torrents.

Below is a screenshot of the router stats (my exchange is at the top of our road)

I ran several speed tests using different ways of connecting (wireless, wired etc) but always got around 1Mb download speeds

Thought I'd give this a go and it did wonders

Thanks to the OP.

----EDIT----

Even better now

The Optimiser will not improve your connection speed between the router and the exchange. It will improve the speed between your PC and the router. You problem is that you are not connecting nearly fast enough. I would advise placing a post in the Broadband Help section, together with the statistics from your router. This section is not frequented much so you will get a better response there.

If you have the V1 router Click this link put in admin for the user and sky for the password and post these stats in the BB Help section.

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

I have just trid the optimiser, beforehand I was getting around 5600 kb/s, and now when I have tried it I am getting 13807 kb/s, great post and excellent bit of software, many thanks.

For peoples information, I had contacted Sky and all they said was whatever it said on the router was what I was getting and that these speed check sites were innaccurate. Looks like they were trying to say that they couldn't be bothered in solving that problem, which they definately was.

^ it's not a case of not solving the problem - it's that it's not in Sky's remit to muck about with your TCP settings...what if they did something and it went wrong? who would you blame?...

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

Sky's responsibility stops at the router really, if your speed there is acceptable, that is the end of it. When you think about the hundreds of different PCs, dozens of OSs and different games consoles, you can hardly expect them to have an answer for everything. Now and again you may get an agent, like the ones who post here, who can advise you how to improve you download speed, but they are few and far between. Just be happy you have a forum like this, which can help you with problems Sky support can't.
