Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

Hi everyone, I'm on the max package too. I'm using the wireless for my laptop & the pc is wired. My speeds are not good, the wireless was 2.3mb and the wired is 6mb. I used the optimizer which bumped the wireless up to 6, but the wired stayed the same. I'm wondering what to do now? Oh and i'm only 1.5km from the wigan exchange.

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

Hello everyone

Just activated my Mid package from Sky and ran a test at Speedtest.net, got speeds of 4745kbps download and 354kbps upload.
Is this as good as I can expect or should I get better and therefore try using the TCPoptimizer?

Thanks

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

I'm back. I removed the ring wire and it added 1meg to my speed. I'm still wondering where the rest of my speed is cos the router says the downstream is 13meg.

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

Hi guys, im at work atm but stumbled across this thread, which might be the answer to my prayers! Im on Mid BB and my router is syncing at 7.4 mb which im very impressed with but when i try speed tests from my pc im only getting 4.9mb at best, my router is plugged direct to the master socket using sky's supplied cable and my computer is connected via 12 metres of cat5e. After much scratching of my head last night i decided to just accpet it, but do you think i should be getting more? Would it be worth running the optimizer? Also do you think this would help with my ping in online games? Thanks for any help

Edit: is this program compatible with Vista 64?

Smile Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

I don't know if it is as a result of using the optimizer, but my wireless speed has gone up again!! it's gone from 7 to 12mbps. metal or what.

Your wireless connection speed will change depending on what is between your wireless pc/laptop and the router. Tv's, mains cables, walls etc all hamper the wireless link you can achieve. If its a laptop go sit next to the router, it should rise to 54meg with an excellent connection and then step down as you move further away.

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

I just tried the test for largest MTU and got this

Pinging [66.230.207.58] with 40 bytes ->Request Timed Out
Pinging [66.230.207.58] with 40 bytes ->Request Timed Out
Pinging [66.230.207.58] with 40 bytes ->Request Timed Out
Couldn't determine largest possible MTU due to packets being lost.
You might want to try a different URL

What does this mean? Also, where is the backup button, I can't see it! lol

Edit: It's ok I figured it out, ran the optimizer and it made no difference.....ah well, was worth a try!
