Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

I am subscribing to 8M Connect but am only connecting at 3040kps

Connection Speed 3040 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 58.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 11.4 db 18.0 db

Is there anything that can be done to improve the Line Attenuation

I have tested the master socket with the same results

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

It could just be the distance from your exchange... you may not be able to get much better, you will find your download speed will differ from time to time aswell

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

is there any chance that an exchange could be established nearer to me - seeing as the nearest one is in the next town ?

hmmm my attenuation used to 51db down .... now only 15.5 for some strange reason, let me reboot to see if my speeds have upgraded.

hmmm my speed changed for the better, but it alwaysa changes - but the attenuation went back to 51, what does that mean then - why did it say 15.5 for down.

and why is the upstream attenuation much smaller than the downstream

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

Well! I have just run TCPOptimizer as recommended and my speed has gone from 2300kbps to 9600kbps. Is this too good to be true??? You did tell us to say "thank you" - which I shall happily do if it is still all good in the morning!!

Re: Optimising your Broadband Connection

Hello all,

Can someone please confirm if these router stats are any good....

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6304 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 42.0 db 27.0 db
Noise Margin 10.7 db 21.0 db

I guess there is no need for me to run the optimisation tool?

Thanks in advance,

Richard

I love you!

I've been having problemes with my broadband max for 3 months now, my router stats said i was getting 16 MBps but at speedtests and on usenet i didn't get above 4 MBps.

i've tried everything, opened several topics, used your tool as well, nothing worked.

Then i thought i might been due to my old mainboard which has usb 1.0 hubs, so i bought a new mainboard and processor and everything last week (needed some new hardware anyway), but after installing the hardware i still had to slow speeds.

So i tried your tool again, and this time it worked!!

I had 3.7 MBps before the tool, and 13.7 MBps after! i'm so happy now! You made my day!

Hey, Dicky. Your DS Attenuation seems a bit on the high side, but there's not much you can do about that as it's determined by your home-exchange line length.
Only thing I'd suggest is ditch any standard extension cables you might be using and gt a longer RJ11 or RJ45 (or go wireless) so your router can plug directly into your master socket.
Having said that if it's not causing you any problems I wouldn't bother.

Your router syncs at 6.3 Mbps, what's your actual download speed on a speed tester tool?
