    Skyuser.co.uk - Unofficial or official?

This is a discussion on Skyuser.co.uk - Unofficial or official? within the Speak to the staff forums, part of the Website news category; I think this sounds like a good compromise and demonstrates again why this site is already growing at the rate ...

I was using an analogy not quoting you

i.e. if some one disagrees with a law (rule), it doesn't mean by extrapolation that they disagree with another similar law (rule).

You've heard the phrase "the law is an ass"? It means that sometimes particular laws are held to be stupid, not that all laws are stupid.

      @Saturday

I understand what you and everyone is saying but you miss the whole point, there has been a huge song and dance about the Mods they do this that and the next thing mainly editing and or deleting post that break the rules thats the job of a Mod and you know as well as me that the rules were deliberately broken and then people start having a go at the staff for doing there jobs I think is totally out of order.

The way to try and get changes is to do what this thread has done talk about it even if it gets heated and not to deliberately break the rules because certain members don't agree with them, at the end of the day I think a very good compromise has been reached from all this and there is now a nice shiny news home for the techies and I for one am very pleased to see this happen but that still hasn't changed the rules and any talk outside the new forum will still be dealt with as they were before.

Moderating a forum, should be done with common sense,
being a jobs worth moderator, just because you can, only inflames the situation, yes there are forum rules to adhere too,
      But who Moderates the Moderators.

Ah I see so you think that breaking a specific rules by some members is ok and its not the catalyst for the problem in the first place.

The moderation on this site is very good and if you are aware of any instance that this has not been the case then feel free to point it out or report it, just because a few of the members don't agree with a particular rule does not give them the right to break it for that very reason.

Admins & Super Mods do, as far as the Admins are concerned the Mods are doing a very good job.

You really do make assumptions!! No where in my post did I hint, let alone say,
where I stood on that side of the argument, I just posted, that "Moderating should be done with common sense".
and went on to ask the question who moderates the moderators.

The moderation on this site is very good and if you are aware of any instance that this has not been the case then feel free to point it out or report it
In most cases I agree with you, and as for being aware of any Instance, I have already made my concerns known to NewsreadeR, before I quit the forum a few weeks ago, hence his post just over a week ago asking me to re-sign and lets start again.

just because a few of the members don't agree with a particular rule does not give them the right to break it for that very reason.
No It doesn't, unfortunately however, if the powers to be, refuse to listen or enter into discussion, the trouble is Rules, by there very nature tend to be broadband (excuse the pun) / black or white, / you can or you can't /
no flexibility / hence the need for Moderators, not only to police the forum, but to moderate in a dispute, not all pile in and put the boot in,
another reason I asked who moderates the moderators,

On a personal note, I am sorry to see Ding Dong give up his Moderators badge, he saw the argument from both sides, and was jumped on for his views. free speech is not just for dictators or is it ?

anyhow have to go out now, so will read your reply later.

I have a feeling this going to get very circular now and yet you are both in your own way standing up for the mods! I would point out that the site owners were in the process of discussing changing this rule when all this kicked off. I had remained quiet, because I am one of those moderaters without a great deal of technical knowledge, and I could as I have said to Ged and Glenn see both sides. I was never jumped on for that. They have disscussed this and agreed a compromise.

Can we all make the most of the changes made, and try to remember in future that the site owners are happy to disscuss any changes to the site and site rules, but the final decision, along with ultimate responsibility for the consequenses lies with them.

I am rambling now, but I just wanted to try and draw a line under this. I see little point in continuing to argue when the original issue has been resolved.

I totally agree with Hugsie, we are prepared to listen to constructive critiscism and if appropriate we are prepared to change to move with the times.

That is what the Speak to the Staff forum is all about.

At the end of the day, we want to try and achieve a happy medium for all our members and this decision (in my eyes) proves that we did listen and also acted on it, although went all round the houses first.

So lets put this one to bed now, please
