[BUG?] Searching for 3 letter words

      Hi
I *think* you allow 3 character searches (it does not give an error) but it does not find results (search for "sky"). This is usually caused by not editing your /etc/my.cnf file in linux and adding:
      Code:
      set-variable = ft_min_word_len=3
      To the section [mysqld]
For the change to take effect you have to restart mysqld and then rebuild your search index's in vbulletin admin. I forgot to add the line to my forums as well for a bit too when I moved servers.
Hope this helps as 3 character searches are very useful and I like the vbulletin search more then the google one.

      Cheers
      Z

      Hi

This is a common problem on vBulletin based forums.

To get around this use the search phrase sky* or just add the * to any three letter search phrase.

Ahh so I take it you cant access you my.cnf?
Its not actually a vbulletin fault, mysql full text index's are by default limited to 4 character min for indexing but I never thought wildcards would work (cheers for the tip). I just wonder if anyone else out there is getting confused with the similar issue thats all really. You could add a message above the search box's etc as fyi for users or just fix mysql and reindex which wont take too long (10-15 mins on my board with Threads: 36,845 Posts: 348,121)
You can actually allow 2 character words too by tweaking the my.cnf file if you specify the words such as ip/tv etc.

      Hi Zero,

      We don't use Linux

We will look into fixing this another way, and thanks for your feedback and help.
