      apple webclips

      The new ipod and iphone have a feature where they create an icon on the main screen as a link for a web page.

      If the site holds an icon it picks it up and uses it as a bookmark on the iPhone’s homescreen. It’s similar, but larger to the favicon that you can see in normal browser bookmarks or next to the URL bar.

      If there’s not one present the iPhone creates one from a snapshot of the page, but these look a bit s***e.

      They are starting to spread through the big sites now - like the BBC etc. All you do is Create a 57x57 PNG. (though larger square sizes give a better resolution and are scaled to fit by the device)

      Name it "apple-touch-icon.png" Put it in the root folder of your website. (Not the root of your server, the root of your web documents.)

      I've knocked one up to suit if you want to try it out:

      You can also put the icon on using a linked file as follows:

      <head>
      <title>Skyuser</title>
      <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/whatever.jpg"/>
      </head>

      Here's the official apple page if you want to look:

      It works too I think it looks good - nice and simple.

      I've tried to take a picture of it - but it hasn't done it justice. Its very hard to take a photo of a small glowing screen!

      And you're more than welcome to the time I put in - I'm hugely grateful for all the help I've received through your site and am just pleased to have an opportunity to put something back.

      Just for further info, the Home Page CMS has a new update soonish, which will give better consideration for Mobile Phones accessing it.

      Will post a thread once implementing.
