Re: Latest Sky / Easynet LLU enabled Exchanges

I am in Ross on Wye and was told that the exchange should be ready for Sky Base, Mid and Max by the end of September, any idea on if that is true and when this may in fact be done this year?
It is quite a bit more expensive for Broadband connect and the connection speed is seriously slow between 6pm and 12pm, even Facebook times out, which is annoying as I am a new Dad, and want to speak to my Family in South Africa and let them see pics of my newborn daughter.
I am not always awake between 12 and 6 in the morning as I am a manager of a hotel and with a newborn, I kinda do need my sleep when I can get it, and it seems broadband connect, just does not understand that people actually may use the internet between 6pm and 12pm, and may not be working! I could use the internet at work, but then facebook is blocked and to be paid to update facebook with photos at work when they are on my home Pc just does not work too well!

Re: Latest Sky / Easynet LLU enabled Exchanges

Dont hold your breath m8 it seems when it comes to exchanges being upgraded its a bit of a lottery. I was told something similar when I signed up that my exchange would be done in about 6 months time when I signed up which was about 18 months ago now and I am still waiting.

Have emailed sky on numerous occasions but keep getting the same reply everytime.

"Thank you for contacting Sky Broadband, regarding the availability of broadband in your area.
Unfortunately, as per the previous email, I am unable to advise when your exchange will be upgraded.

We are constantly upgrading exchanges around the country, but unfortunately there is no timescale as to when your local exchange will be done.
If you need further help or information, please reply to this email or contact us on 08442 41 05 15. "

So its just a waiting game now.

Re: Latest Sky / Easynet LLU enabled Exchanges

Hi nothing personal but I think its quite naive to jump into bed with Sky and their Connect product.

I'd immediately be asking questions why Id want to do that....when you could go for a proper quality ISP with a monthly contract like newnet and still break out costing less than Connect. Hardly a "favour" from Sky is it.

They should be doing it at least half price for existing customers who have no other option at the moment. Put it like this. Sky broadband isn't free - we are paying more than our fair share for those who can get the service to get it for free. Even tho the TV package is a pretty reasonable VFM it still kind of bugs you doesn't it.

Re: Latest Sky / Easynet LLU enabled Exchanges

I am pretty sure if Sky owned the infrastructure that BT does at the moment, Connect would be cheaper.

BT charge about £8.50 a month plus an initial connection charge to Sky for them to use their network. Lets not forget Sky are a company, and wish to be profitable.

Newnet is not such a good example. I used to have Home M, and if you weigh their package up against Sky's Connect, Sky would win, hands down.

Monthly Cost:

Newnet - £17.95
Sky - £17.00

Allowance:

Newnet - 12GB
Sky - 40GB

New Connection Fee:

Newnet - £39.95
Sky - £30.00

Newnet also charge per additional GB

Pre-paid additional bandwidth £1.40/GB.

Therefore, the equivalent from Newnet would be -

£17.95 plus for the same allowance, £39.20 = £57.15 in reality.
