The team here can only apologise on behalf of both Glenn (Satdish) and Ged (Newsreader) for the delay in resolving this.

I too have tried to attract their attention and have just sent an email to them both. Hopefully something will happen soon.

Just to clarify: None of the SkyUser Staff work for Sky. None of the moderators get any financial reward for the work we do, it is purely voluntary.

Only the site owners have access to the servers so as a Moderator I have no ability to resolve this.

Again, the team can only apologise for the delay in resolving this and I hope that something will happen soon as the SMTP Servers are used by a lot of people.

lol - As I don't have my own email server or non-standard email address I haven't ever used the SkyUser SMTP Servers

      Bump to the top!

Anybody had any response regarding this issue? I use a gmail account along with my domain name, and was using the server to avoid the whole "sent on behalf of" malarkey.

Re: SMTP down??? having problems sending emails via sky user.mail server

Just a quick question for you all...

Since Sky migrated to Yahoo! Mail Glenn has stopped taking new applications as most people can use their own SMTP Servers now. Have any of you tried this whilst we wait to hear back from Ged or Glenn?

That doesn't address those of us who don't use a sky email address. My pop email is @which.net. Being on Sky I can't use the mail.which.net smtp server so rely heavily on skyusermail.com

I would quite happily pay a subscription if needed.

Re: SMTP down??? having problems sending emails via sky user.mail server

"Since Sky migrated to Yahoo! Mail Glenn has stopped taking new applications as most people can use their own SMTP Servers now. "

How does one do this? The account I use via Outlook and SkyUser smtp is a bt.yahoo account. Under the "previous"(?) system... one had to use either Sky Mail - or register for the SkyUser smtp service if wishing to use one's preferred email account/service. Trying to use the bt smtp server brought up messages that it wouldn't work (after a fashion).

Using the smtp server - mail.btinternet.com - (that's the bt default) either won't work; or if it does appear to then it's incredibly slow, and no guarantee that emails will arrive at destination. My own tests using that smtp server (during this current problem) have indicated most emails get lost (if they ever actually get out...). If there is genuine/safe/guaranteed yahoo server we could use - then fine...? If I use the web access for my bt.yahoo account - emails go out and arrive just fine - and no delays...

Incidentally I have noted for quite a while that incoming emails into my M$-Office\Outlook arrangement take a lot longer to arrive there - even if they're already in the bt.yahoo account in-box (when viewed on-line). Don't recall that always being so... Whether or not this is related... much inclined to suspect there is more than a little amiss overall with the system?

Re: SMTP down??? having problems sending emails via sky user.mail server

      Easy one first...

I believe that the BT email account can actually use Yahoo's SMTP servers. I can't check just now, but I am sure that these are the settings I used on a freind's Laptop for his btinternet.com email addresses.

A search for Which?'s SMTP server show it to be: mail.which.net

More info here: Welcome to Which?

For a list of others check here:

Outgoing Email SMTP Server Settings List For ISPs

I realise that prior to Sky switching to Yahoo! Mail that this could not be accomplished, hence why Ged and Glenn set up the SMTP server for free to SkyUser members who were with Sky Broadband.

I've tried that and it doesn't work from Sky LLU broadband. It did work when I was with BT on adsl max, but not from Sky LLU. This is why I need a different smtp server.
