      delivery status notifications

      Dear Forum,

Can anyone help with a problem I've been experiencing recently? Over the last couple of weeks I've been getting more and more '- These recipients of your message have been processed by the mail server:
*****@****etc; Failed; 4.4.7 (delivery time expired)' messages bounced back. Some people have also reported that they're not getting attachments I'm sending. It's not just from one recipient - it happens with multiple recipients and it's not spam because they are real mesages I have tried to send.

I am connected via Sky broadband at home (via the SMTP server on the Skyuser site), using Thunderbird. I know there was a brief hiccup in the SMTP a couple of months ago but that was sorted quite quickly.

I'm not sure if this happens if I send via webmail or another broadband supplier (using outlook express at work via BE)

I would be grateful for any help! Forgive me if this is in the wrong thread - I can't find the SMTP one anymore!

      Many thanks,

      Navtej.

There is a potential issue, see this thread.

      21 March Blacklisted Again

However checking spam blacklists we are not listed on it.

We are still checking things out.

Actually just reread your post, this issue has only been reported as from this morning, and would appear to affect people using email addresses hosted by 123-reg.co.uk

There are no know blacklistings for our SMTP server that we can see at the moment.

      Network Tools: DNS,IP,Email

      Re: delivery status notifications

      Hi Newsreader,

Thanks for the quick reply and for moving me to the right forum.

Do you have any ideas what might be causing this? It's happened with recipients on btopenworld, rocketmail, btinternet and yahoo.com. Email sends fine through the SMTP server (been going on for about 7-10 days).

I've posted this on the Talk Talk forum as well but had no answers, as I thought it might be related to the fact I don't have a Talk Talk account (I have an old Tiscali address).

      Appreciate any suggestions.

      Kind regards,

      Navtej

      Re: delivery status notifications

One possible reason is that our RDNS was set by our hosts to mail.skyuser.co.uk (when we moved servers) whereas it should have been set to mail.skyusermail.com - This has now been done within the last hour or so, so could possibly be the reason if the recipients email server didn't like what our RDNS resolved to.

However, saying that, it shouldn't really matter that much anyway, very few servers would blacklist for that anyway.

Using the blacklist check, it is still showing mail.skyuser.co.uk as our RDNS but that should sort itself soon, and that we are not on any active blacklists.

If it is because of this, then it should be resolved very soon.

      Thanks for the explanation.

I'll see if it happens again over the next couple of days.

      Many thanks,

The RDNS is now showing correctly on the tools that we use, so if this was your issue, it should now have gone away hopefully.
