cant send emails

I have just bought a new Dell computer with Vista. My ISP is with UkONLINE. I have also bought a unused, unwanted flashed Sky Netgear DG834GT. I can get on line and receive email with Outlook but I cant send e mail. I have talked with the ISP provider and all my settings are correct. would there be a problem with the netgear modem? Could it have not been flashed properly.

Many thanks for any thoughts
Owrang

Re: cant send emails

No it would not be a fault with the router as you can receive emails and browse the internet have you tried sending them from the online account or just from outlook if just from outlook then try sending them from the online email account.

Re: cant send emails

I can send emails from web based ukonline account or yahoo but not from outlook express account which is really the only one I use. Tried switching off Macafee but no help.

Re: cant send emails

If you are running vista then it's presumably windows mail you are using. Do you get any error messages?

Re: cant send emails

try this:
To fix this problem:
  • Open windows mail, and click Tools
  • Then click on Accounts
  • Then click on your ukonline connection and click Properties
  • Then click Advanced
  • On this screen remove the checks from the boxes This server requires a secure connection for both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3).

Re: cant send emails

I looked at the boxes you suggested but they were not checked anyway.
These are my settings:
General: Name and email adddress (owrang@ukonline.co.uk)
Servers: Incoming POP3, incoming mail pop3.ukonline.co.uk, outgoing mail smtp.ukonline.co.uk. Name and password filled in. remember password checked.

Connection: only choice is "local area network"

Advanced: server port numbers__ outgoing 25 and incoming 110. No boxes checked.
