Re: cant send emails

The thing I would try at this point would be to download thunderbird and try configuring that with the same details. If that is able to send I would either stick with thunderbird, or delete the account in windows mail and try recreating it in case it has been corrupted in some way. Good luck.

Re: cant send emails

I am not actually connected wirelessly with the netgear router from sky which as imentioned previously was unlocked by the seller

I went on the link as you suggested

IP 90.193.177.113
Hostname 5ac1b171.bb.sky.com
Your provider sky broadband
Not going thru proxy

This is interesting as my ISP is ukonline

Re: cant send emails

I was suspecting that that link would show your ISP as something other than UKONLINE.

The actual error you are getting is probably 550 Relay not permitted and that is because the ukonline SMTP server sees you as not coming from within its domain.

I had been suspecting that you may have been picking up an open wireless connection from one of your neighbours but if you are wired that is obviously not the case.

Both SKY and UKONLINE use the easynet backbone so somehow you are being issued the wrong IP range.

Are you sure the router has been flashed back to the netgear version. What is the firmware version reported as?

Re: cant send emails

Yes I am getting 550 relay not permitted.
Sorry but there is no report on firmware version and I dont know what it means.
I went on the link you provided again but with my old computer on a BT voyager 105 modem (windows millenium). Outlook express works normally on this unlike my new computer and I came up with these results.
Your Ip 87.80.232.182
Hostname bb-87-80-232-182.ukonline.co.uk
Provider ukonline
Thanks

Re: cant send emails

You need to log into your router at 192.168.0.1 .

The login if netgear firmware should be admin/password but I suspect you will need to use admin/sky.

The firmware will be reported on the status screen. The sky firmware will be V1.02.28. I think yours will be something else as it has been flashed but after flashing the routers retain the sky configuration details and so they should be reset to factory defaults by holding the reset button in for 10 secs.

If you do that you will then be able to put your ukonline settings in and all should be well.

Good Luck
