How to apply for a SkyUser SMTP account
|
 |
Please make sure you read the following, before applying for an SMTP account. We are getting loads of requests for an SMTP account to be setup, with out those people providing the required information. And then to top it off we get emails of complaints for not activating the account, because that person has not supplied the required information. We are not mind readers, and incorrect applications will be deleted without any response.
Following on from the Sky / Google Email scenario, whereby people can no longer use their old email address's to send email whilst connected to Sky, we have brought online today, our SkyUser SMTP service.
This is free to use for our members who are Sky Broadband Customers. The Terms and Conditions are below. Hope you enjoy using it
We have simple ground rules for this:- You must be a SkyUser Member.
- You must be on Sky Broadband.
- Maximum Size of emails / attachments that can be sent is set to 30mb.
- No more than 50 emails can be sent in one go.
- If you abuse or Spam and we get complaints we will delete your ability to send using our SMTP server. Any abusive / threatening emails sent by yourselves and subsequently reported to us will lead to your account being deleted.
- No email is to be sent by you to promote Copyright Theft / Intellectual Property Theft, ie Do not use our services to promote Torrents or any other illegal activities. If this is reported to us, we will delete your SMTP Account.
- There is no limit to Email address's you wish to send from.
- Your Username and Password will be unique to you, please do not share it with anybody else.
- We DO NOT offer a POP Service, this is already available for you via other means. For absolute Clarity, ours is an outgoing Server only.
- As this is a free service to our members, there is no Service Level Agreement, and we do not guarantee 100% Uptime, and is supplied as Goodwill and without any type of warranty.
- We reserve the right to alter these conditions at any time if the service is being abused.
We promise to:
- Act swiftly on any problems with this service.
- Commit to a period of 12 months, as from today, to providing this service.
Please do not use this SMTP address if you have not registered with us, as it will not authenticate.
SMTP Server setting to be used: mail.skyusermail.com
Along with the Username and Password that you sent to us on your application. Once the SMTP has been activated, we will confirm to your Forum PM (Private Message) Account. It is at this point that you can use our SMTP server.
Please remember that the Username and Password to be used for SkyUser's SMTP service, is the Username and Password, that you have sent to us on the application form, and not the Username and Password for the forums.
How to apply for an SMTP account or tell us that there is something wrong with your SMTP account
Any problems with the SMTP server or to apply for an SMTP account, please contact us using this form, letting us know your forum username and don't forget to supply a password that you wish to use, one that is not used for anything else. If you are applying and you are not signing up from your Sky Broadband Connection, please also supply your Sky.com email address, so that we can verify that you are a Sky Broadband Customer.
Please note: If you do not supply all of the requested information, we will delete your request, until you resupply all of the requested information.

Could everyone who wants to use this service please follow the instructions that we have provided in the first post.

This service has been far more popular than the Poll indicated and we are spending too much time chasing up people who have not followed these instructions.
If you have applied for an SMTP account and not yet had it activated, there are only two reasons possible.
1) You have not followed the instructions, and we are awaiting further contact from you. Everyone who has not provided the information requested, will not get activated until you do so.
2) We physically have not had the chance to process the applications.
Depending on the scenario above, this is the reason why. If you have followed the instructions, rest assured the accounts will be activated asap. If you haven't provided the required info, then please follow the instructions above.
There is absolutely no point in PMing (Private Messaging) us, as that does not capture your IP address, and so we cannot verify that you are on Sky Broadband.
As from today, until further notice, no applications will be processed before 6.30pm on a working day, so please be patient.

What a great service - seems so simple and certainly easy for me. I was sending a test message inside three minutes. Shame Sky could not see that while me@sky.com may be fine for 80-90% of their customers, the minority of their custromers with their own domain e-mail identities have had a major problem over the last five or six weeks.
Thanks Satdish

Re: How to apply for a SkyUser SMTP account

Hi
I think this is what I am looking for. I am not that technical, so do apologise for this.
I have a Virgin email account that I am able to receive , but no longer send emails through windows mail. With this system I will be able to put the details in to windows mail and I will then be able to send my virgin emails again.
I would leave my incoming server as POP3 mail.virgin.net but just alter the outgoing one to mail.skyusermail.com
I would not need to change the settings to my server requires authentication and put in any of my sky details.
Thank you so much if you can sort this.
Regards

Have now had the details back and would like everyone to know what a fantastic job you are doing. Fantastic how easy you have made things (even for someone who doesn't have a clue like me)

Thanks for doing this - a great service and really straightforward to set up once I'd provided you with the correct information. And free! Following other threads I had previously tried to use 1&1 internet, but it turns out, despite what their sales team said, that you can't use them just as an outgoing server - you have to transfer your domain name and everything to them.

Thanks for the kind comments guys and gals.
We now have nearly 300 people using this service, of which the poll indicated only about 40 would use it.
