Hi
Though those threads seem pretty out of date, all i'm after is is a better knowledge of the screws in my partcular box, around the metal shielding (i've had it open for a brief look). Once i have the original drive out, and side by side with the new one, i;ll use my 2nd pc and the copy+ website guide from then on.

Okay, well if it's screws then you 'normally' need a T10 torx 'security' screwdriver.
Does it look like any of them in the attached guides?

Hi
yes i have the suitable screwdriver for the job. The closest match is the Amstrad DRX180, but with additional metal shielding, totally covering the hard drive.

Well i decided to see if taking the HD out is as simple as it looked - and luckily it is. The hard drive is suspended in a large metal shield, with 4 screws, and the metal shield itself, is secured to a metal plinth in the box, via 6 long screws. I havent actually got another hard drive yet, as still deciding which one to go for. Probably between these two
500 GB Western Digital WD5000AAKB Caviar Blue, IDE (PATA), 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms
500 GB Hitachi 0A33407/0A35397 Deskstar 7K500, IDE (PATA), 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 8.5 ms
I will have to find out which is the quieter of the two.

any thoughts on the above drives welcome - i've been reading that certain drives will simply not work with the sky+ box, due to spin up times and things like that, but the posts were from a few years back. But i dont want to end up with a spare hard drive, that i cant use (got enough for my pc's already)

Re: Upgrading your sky+ hard drive

This Copy+ software, I know it copies and backs up the actual programs but does it copy across the EPG (saved series links) etc or only saved programs.
I have just had HD installed but I have saved programs on my old Sky + box so Im looking to transfer across the programs and saved links etc.
Does anyone know.
Regards.

it copies the whole lot, series links, future recordings. Your planner will be exactly as it was, just with a hell of a lot more space!!!!!
