Is there anything i can do? (communal dish)

i live in a block of flats which shares a communal dish, the flats are only 12months old so i thought they would have been able to handle sky plus. all the flats have a plate on the wall with Aerial, Sat, DAB, Phone etc..

when the engineer came to visit i wasnt there but he told my mother who was waiting in for him that i wouldnt be able to record 1 channel while watching another, which appears true.

i dont know the thought behind it, but is there anything i could possibly do to bypass this? it kinda renders SKY+ useless and not impressed
