New Sky+ box faulty already?

Just had my 3 month old Sky+ box replaced today and it seems that this one is faulty as well.

The remote is very hit and miss, it can take up to 3 button presses to actually change channel, or go into a menu (batteries have been replaced).

Whilst recording 2 programs, it will not let me watch any programs that are recorded, or being recorded from the planner.
When I select a recorded one, I just get a still image of one of the 2 programs that is currently recording. If I select one of the 2 programs that are currently recording, I get the following message "Recording interupted please wait" it then sits there and does nothing until I press the backup button.

I have unplugged it and tried again, but with the same results. It was letting me watch recorded and recording programs earlier, but this is the 1st time of trying whilst 2 programs are recording.

For your info I have a Thomson Sky+ 80GB white unit.

Any ideas, or do I have to wait another 3 weeks to have this one replaced?

Re: New Sky+ box faulty already?

Was the previous box faulty with the same symptoms or was the previous box repaced for totally different reasons?

Different reasons, the old one would just fail to record a lot of programs, or when it did record them, you would be watching a blue screen. It made high pitch noises and froze randomly. It was the same model box though (could it be an issue with Thomson box's? would a Pace or Amstrad be better?)

Re: New Sky+ box faulty already?

I'm tempted to say it might be an LNB problem.

You need to have a satelite signal to be able to watch recorded programs.

Whats the sig quality and strength like?

Re: New Sky+ box faulty already?

The signal strength and quality is good. I phoned Sky as none of the recorded programs were working, even ones that were fine before. The bloke I spoke to said it was a viewing card pairing issue and he paired the card.

All seems to be working this morning, we have just lost half a dozen programs from yesterday. My Wife is fuming at me, as this was the reason I got rid of Virgin (programs not recording)

Re: New Sky+ box faulty already?

Still having problems with the box, so another engineer is coming out on Wednesday. This box seems very very loud compared to the other one, we can hear it over the TV.

When they swap the box's, do you actually get a new one?

Re: New Sky+ box faulty already?

you'll get a refurb.

Get the engineer to replace the LNB and re-align the dish.

Make sure they do this and explain that you keep getting replacement boxes but no-one has replaced the dish/lnb/cables.
