Sky+ Box in Motorhome - vertical mount?
When we go away on holiday we take our Sky box with us and plug it into our Oyster satellite system.
This has not been a problem in the past with our standard Panasonic Sky box – we held it in place mounting the box vertically against the TV cabinet wall by using Velcro and has worked fine for the past five years.
Now that we have upgraded to a Sky+ box we wondered if it would be OK to do the same, or does the Sky+ box need to be mounted horizontally for the hard drive to work? Could the hard drive get damaged given the inevitable bumps and thumps on the road?
We still have our old box that we could use – just need to re register it each time we go away.
Any advice much appreciated.
Nigel.

Hard drive should be ok, just make sure you dont block any ventilaton holes by mounting it that way.

What about the telephone connection for Sky+ ??
Sky seem to insist on this.

Good point about the phone line.
We've never had any issues with the old box - though I seem to recall that the contract was that you only had to have the phone line plugged in for a year.
Any thoughts?
If we do stick with using the old box (at least for a year) is there an easier way of re registering this box with our Sky viewing card i.e. can we leave this box in the van and register through the satellite dish, or do we need to bring it into the house and register via the phone line?
Thanks in advance for everyones help.
Nigel.

Re: Sky+ Box in Motorhome - vertical mount?
Sky only ring the box every month or so if you are in a 12 month contract, if they do catch you when you are away you can alway say you killed the power to the Sky+ box cos you dont like leaving electrical appliance's plug in when your on holiday. They only send a warning letter to plug it back in, they start getting shirty after the 3rd or 4th letter threatening to cancel contracts etc. I know cos I've been there!

Re: Sky+ Box in Motorhome - vertical mount?
Greetings:
I'm having cold feet about taking the new Sky+ box on holiday in the motorhome - a month of pot holes is unlikely to do the hard disk much good!
What we'll do is take the old Sky box with us.
I'm forgetful: can someone please give me the method of re-registering the old box with our Sky Card so that it will work OK, we'll then do this again with our Sky+box on our return.
Many thanks.

Re: Sky+ Box in Motorhome - vertical mount?
Just ring Sky up and ask them to pair the viewing card with the box, should take a few minutes.
If you wrapped the Sky+ box up in a towel and maybe left it under the bed covers whilst travelling I would assume you should be fine. After all it was couriered to the installer.
If you want an empty box for Sky+ send me a PM - you can have mine, we never threw i away.

Re: Sky+ Box in Motorhome - vertical mount?
I'm a bit reluctant to phone Sky up and ask them to do this - would they not ask why I'm doing this? (I'm taking the box abroad which I know isn't allowed - though we've been doing this three or four times a year for the past five years!)
I thought it was possible to pair up the box and card using the system menus but just can't remember how.

Just pair them up before you go, simple. Sky would never know
