Overcharged for broadband
I found out I was being charged £10 rather than the standard/advertised 7.50 per month for unlimited broadband. It seems sky reduced the price around two years ago meaning that they potentially got an extra £60 for nothing.
I rang them up and they seemed quite convinced they where in the right despite me receiving no notification of any changes. The advisor did switch me to the lower price and claimed I should be receiving better speeds as well. However this makes no sense to me. I was paying more for a worse service than everyone else Not to mention over these two years I have logged into sky a lot and was never notified via message or email that I could be better off even though everything is account specific.
I was told I would not receive a refund but could either get three months of movies/sports for half price or free ESPN. The senior advisor also confirmed that these were the only deals available. I chose ESPN even though I have no interest in it.
Is there any way to take this further or should I just cut my losses?
I find it unacceptable That they would have left me to continue paying more for a worse service than what is advertised/available.

Re: Overcharged for broadband
Ok.
Just my opinion here, but if all along you had sky tv, phone & broadband unlimited (& not 'broadband connect' at a discounted price) then i'd say you've every right to feel aggrieved.
Personally, i'd wait for some more informed opinions, as there's bound to be others on this forum that have had similar billing issues. Luckily i haven't.
edit: I joined sky bb after the min/mid/max categories & so have only ever known 'everyday lite' & unlimited. I do now vaguely recall a thread or two here regarding your specific billing problem...Last edited by gymno; 03-08-12 at 04:20 PM.

Re: Overcharged for broadband
You were advised some time ago to call Sky to have your speed fixed, but you vacated the thread and did not say if you had done so.
Line testing taking longer than 10 days
There are still a few in your position who did not agree to an extra 12 months contract to get the reduced price when the broadband terms were changed. It is no consolation but you are not the only one in this position. The Sky data base has missed a few whose rate should have been changed when the new conditions came into force.

Re: Overcharged for broadband
If it helps, I have been caught by this too.
A simple phone call rectified the situation. I did have to agree to another minimum 12 month term which wasn't a problem for myself.

Re: Overcharged for broadband
Some responsiblity should be on yourself as you must have checked your bills for over 6 months and didn't call Sky to question it despite the countless adverts on tv, online and through your letterbox?

Re: Overcharged for broadband
This is one reason I do not like paperless billing.
Sky are not the only company who prefer not to send out monthly bills now and it does make things hard for a lot of people to keep track of things.
Sure I am tech savvy, but I do still prefer paper bills.

Re: Overcharged for broadband
Sky's broadband pricing scheme changed when they added a discount for having the TV service to encourage people to go for the triple-play. Existing customers who are on the old pricing scheme were left on that scheme as they would have to regrade and agree to another 12month term on their broadband subscription, which many would not want to do. Also, changing to the £7.50 pricing scheme doesn't affect your speed, as this is done at the exchange, not on Sky's systems..
