Broadband cancellation charges

Hi,

Does anyone know how much Sky charge for getting out of their broadband package?

I'm currently on Connect and am 5 months through the 12 month contract. I am suffering the connection speed problems which are detailed elsewhere in this forum.

When I phoned Sky CS they said that they couldn't give me a figure until the new ISP was my broadband provider ie The MAC code had been used.

I'm not very happy at the moment: I'd rather not go through the cancellation process without having an idea of how much it will cost me first!

Thanks

Re: Broadband cancellation charges

It costs the remainder of your contract.

So if you transfer 100 days into your contract, then the charge will be 265 days.

Re: Broadband cancellation charges

Thanks for the quick response. I've got some more questions off the back of it.

I'm on a contract whereby I'm paying £10 per month rather than the regular £17 (special offer for a year). Will the termination be calculated at the lower or the higher rate?

I also got free Sky Talk for a year when I joined Sky. Will a broadband cancellation stop this offer?

Thanks.

Re: Broadband cancellation charges

There are a great many who have left Connect with no charge. Sky know the service is not fit for purpose and probably will not pursue you for payment. Maybe some who have moved could confirm this.
I think the main thing is not to ask how much they will carge, just ask for your MAC don't even mention cancelling and go to another provider. Keep a log of speedtests done on the official BT Speedtester at peak time to back up your claim of it being a useless and practically unusable service.

I don't know how you will stand with the Sky Talk issue, it will depend on whether it was judged to be part of the TV contract or the broadband one..

One point is that if they were charging you only £10, it usually means the exchange is enabled with no free slots for you at the moment or that it is scheduled to be enabled.

Re: Broadband cancellation charges

If it's speed related, go through the correct channels with tech support and you'll have a case to leave because of an unusable service. Your telephone package will not be affected at all.
