Unhappy Sky slooooooooooooooooow in evenings

Hi All

With Sky Broadband. In the day I am getting up to 6MB/s speeds. However, from 5pm onwards, getting 700 - 900 K. This remains until after 23h00. Happens every day. Is there a way to get this resolved.

Re: Sky slooooooooooooooooow in evenings

Simple reason, you are on Connect not Max. See the many threads on Connect.

Re: Sky slooooooooooooooooow in evenings

Your on Sky Connect which means that during peak hours 5pm - midnight there is not enough internet to go around and Sky won't buy any more.

Only option is to move ISP's.

Re: Sky slooooooooooooooooow in evenings

If you are on a Doncaster exchange, both have been enabled by Sky, so you may just be waiting on a slot becoming available on the LLU service. How much are you paying for your broadband, if it is £5-£10 then you are waiting on a slot. You should call the Sky Provisioning department and ask to be moved as soon as possible. Put your phone number in this search for the full information on your exchange. SamKnows Broadband - Availability - Exchange Search

If your exchange has not been enabled, get your MAC and go to another ISP, don't worry about breaking your conditions, they have broken them by not providing you with a usable service. This does not effect your TV contract,

Re: Sky slooooooooooooooooow in evenings

you can get moved automatically if you get through to customer services - I put 2 people thourhg after seeing there are 2 cards of free ports just sat doing nothing so passed the customer to CS who moved them to LLU...so it can be done quicker than waiting for the auto-migration...

Re: Sky slooooooooooooooooow in evenings

Sky connect package = heavy traffic shaping / port blocking / cut bandwith during peak times.

Sorry but that's all there is to it

Re: Sky slooooooooooooooooow in evenings

Would just like to confirm that the Sky Connect package does have extreme traffic shaping in effect, I was told by support (Tier2) that their network was running at maximum capacity and as a result that was the reason why the connection was dropping every 10 seconds for upto 3 minutes at a time during peak hours.

Went through the routine no less than 8 times calling them, having them test my line, asking me to check my computer (because it was my computer for a the 3 months according to them) only to a get a straight answer on my final call explaining how extreme their traffic shaping was.

Were due to change ISPs within the next 2 weeks but if anyone is considering getting this package I would strongly advise against it.

York
Hi you are right between 5pm till Midnight the connect package is throttled the issue is to many connect Customers and not enough Bandwidth. It has been like this since Oct 08. there are thousands of posts all complaining. If you are moving make sure you move to an ISP who supplies LLU I notice you have a couple at your exchange Talktalk is the better of the 2

Re: Sky slooooooooooooooooow in evenings

Sky Connect is horrible during peak periods. I've grown used to the frequent connection drops, and sometimes sub-dial up speeds during peak times. Sadly there's nothing else in my area since I live in a small village.
