The MAC code
I've decided it's time to dump Sky Connect after two years of reasonable performance and then six months frustration. I believe I must quote a MAC code number to my next prospective ISP (thinking about O2). Reading some of the experiences getting Sky to give out this data, I now find the MAC code is displayed on my Netgear router's internal webpage. This is at Router Status/ADSL Port/MAC Address.
Is this the code I need to give to O2?
Any further advice or comment is welcome. I don't know much about swapping ISPs.
Thank you,
JaX

Re: The MAC code
No. There are two types of MAC's
One for the router / Network Card interface (the one you can see in your router) and one also known a Migration Authorisation Code or MAC.
To get one try this,
Sky User - How to get your MAC (Migration Authorisation Code)
O2 seem to be the best alternative provider at the moment, and we will soon be joining you.

Re: The MAC code
No your MAC code is NOT your MAC address. The MAC or Migration Authorisation Code needs to be requested from Sky and passed on to your future ISP. Contact Sky, either by phone or better yet using the kana form - https://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/sk...contactus/kana and simply ask for your MAC code. Do not say anything about cancelling your service.

Re: The MAC code
Don't forget do not cancel, get the MAC from the cancellations department, once it is with the new provider and they use it the cancellation process will begin and you should see as little loss of service as possible.

Re: The MAC code
Forgot to mention how long does it take for sky to respond for the mac code on the contact form? as need to join o2 before end of month for the 3 months free bb deal ?? or is it quicker to ring them ??
What do you say if they ask what do u want your mac code for ?? without telling them ur thinking of leaving ??

Re: The MAC code
Sky have 5 days to supply the MAC code, it may be quicker by phone but sometimes they will still insist on sending it via post.
If they ask why you need it just tell them, you are considering moving to another provider, this is the only real reason you would need it anyway so there is no need to spin them a line.
Be very clear when talking to them, you do not want to CANCEL broadband, you just want your MAC code to enable you to migrate to another ISP if you decide to in the next 30 days.
