I still have no idea why BT are allowed such a monopoly, surely it would be more effective if a completely independent third party managed the network and all the providers including BT would have to go through them.

Strictly speaking it is not BT who manage/maintain the network, it is BT Openreach, who although under the BT Group umbrella, are completely independent of BT Retail or Wholesale.

Easy answer, The amount of money Sky think they can get out of your pocket without improving the service or honouring any agreements they make.

Either:
you are in a non sky LLU area, you will get the same treatment as a sky sonnect package user which is prone to 'throttling' and traffic shaping.
Or you are still on the Connect package.
