Angry Disconnected without warning

Up to dinner time yesterday (11/8) Sky BB was working fine. Sometime after that it was cut off No warning, no notification, nothing
My wife (the account holder) rang up to be told we had been disconnected, the reason being that we had changed our phone number... over 7 months ago! We even switched to Sky talk - with the new number, and BB still worked fine.

As my wife runs a full time childmining business from home, and I have a part time photography business - both reliant on email and web sites for advertising etc. I was going to threaten them with legal action and sue for loss of earnings, but then I saw the "don't use it for business" clause in the terms and conditions

She's had a text to say it will be reconnected on the 20/8, but I've still complained as this is completely unacceptable. They turned us off, they can turn us back on.

o/t now I've finished ranting, thanks for a great site and valuable resource

Re: Disconnected without warning

Chances are it's BT catching up with Sky, or vice versa...number changes technically mean cease of existing service and reprovide...

And it's not a simple case of plug you back in as the new number has no ties associated with it - chances are the ties you were on with the old number have been allocated to a new user which leads to the situation you're in...

A number change is NEVER straight forward and shuld be avoided if possible...

Re: Disconnected without warning

There is a very similar case here -
Utterly Shockingly poor customer service

Looks like BT/Sky have been doing a bit of bookkeeping, causing headaches.

Re: Disconnected without warning

Update:
After complaining through the correct channels, we finally got a response from Sky explaining what had happened (the phone number swap - but someone had cocked up) and apologising profusely. We now have an extra 6 months free line rental on our Sky Talk package

Re: Disconnected without warning

Update #2:
Now my line speed seems to have settled at the pathetic rate of 761kbps, where as we were getting 2 to 2.5 meg before the "cut off". Quite bad when we're supposed to be on the highest package (that's what my wife says she was bullied into getting)

I've followed the advice elsewhere in the forum - using the test socket, new filter etc. and provided all the details for my wife to ring them later.

Lets see what happens this time...

Re: Disconnected without warning

There is a good chance DLM is running on your line. Have a look at the Broadband details section on your MySky page, it is supposed to be, but is not always, reported there.
See here-
What Is DLM? Everything you need to know.

Re: Disconnected without warning

Correct. Managed to find my MySky login details, and indeed they are doing DLM for our broadband. Along with their own "network improvments".
Guess I'll just have to wait

Thanks to everyone for their help and assistance.

After a long exchange of emails, I'm now back on 2.9mb

Shocking to see how many other people are similarly affected

Re: Disconnected without warning

Jakers, you should be less critical, especially as you don't seem to be able to string a sentence together
