Sky Connect, Internet package from hell
Warning this post may contain a rant!
I used to be a happy internet customer with Demon, 8meg max, never got great speeds 3.5meg max avg but it worked 24/7 & i could use it whenever however i wanted.
But the household decided to go for the full SKY package TV,talk BB ect, after much consideration i guessed "well my exchange only offers BT wholesale, one ISP cant be any different than then next..." what a fool i was for thinking this.
Since day 1 this connect package, which i was assured was no different from the Max has been a nightmare, massive pings & terrible speeds.
So after going through all the usual idiot steps, filters, faceplate, test socket, etc bla bla, SKY customer solution put me on Fast path, my pings were better, down from 300-500ms to 150+
After 3 months of hassle, and numurous excuses, BT being the main culprit according to SKY, my final advice from support was leave find another ISP.
me being lazy i never got round to canceling, & oddly at the begining of June i had 3 solid weeks of great internet, even at peak times! i thought "wow maybe they have fixed it after all"
Then it all went bad again, after a few phone calls, i get a call back saying that im being capped for using 10-20 gig of bandwidth a day! which i can assure i'm not
Anyway after a slight mixup with me giving the wrong mac address SKY is sending me a new router, & i shall register that when it comes & go from there, but i suspect that wont be the end of my troubles with SKY connect.
The really crap thing that gets me though, we have a 2nd line in the house, that uses BT internet, & that works great, How do SKY manage to offer such a shoddy package?
Its pretty poor when i cant even play a simple Java game such as runescape, which uses about 0.5kBsec
I wonder how many others have similar problems with Connect? & are being capped for bandwidth they arent using!

Re: Sky Connect, Internet package from hell
Connect is over capacity and everyone will suffer to some degree, it's just that certain use sees more problems, gamers and P2P users especially.
If I were you I would move, there are no signs of it getting any better soon, check your exchange again, I was surprised to see the other day that O2 and Be are now both at my exchange, you never know your luck.
If not, try Plusnet, Zen, IdNet or ADSL24, although these are on the BT network, they manage their networks much, much better.

Re: Sky Connect, Internet package from hell
Thnx for the advice
My main gripe at the moment is being accused of using 10-20 gig of bandwidth daily! & thus being capped to the point where my internet is useless for anything other than surfing pages & email etc.
& despite the Fact that theres a 40gig month usage limit on connect, If you actually start to use this, they cap you! Its like i'm damned if i do & damned if i don't
SKY aren't doing themselves any favours by over subscribing, there only giving themselves a bad name, i guess they don't want long term customers, after all they can always rope in some other sucker

Re: Sky Connect, Internet package from hell
sky connect has basically ruined me in the last 3 weeks!! i play a lot of online poker although im well within my bandwidth limits the site i use is bet365 national company.qualified for 2 £100k plus tournaments that cost £30 and £20 to qualify, couldnt play as CONNECT couldnt connect. bet365 wont refund not even the buy in and sky just pass me off. ive spent over 6hours on phone to them recently after 1 time cut off being passed back and for. the problem is that my connection problems started the day before my tournaments!! couldnt play in 1 of them. i could be rich but all i got is a sky package costing average £70 a month that i can only use between 8am and 430pm when im in work!!
HAS ANYONE GOT ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT CONNECT?

Re: Sky Connect, Internet package from hell
it works for me, but i'm in the vast minority...and i don't game - just browse and download a bit of music...
as for losing money - Sky won't compo you as using Sky BB to make money in against T&C's...

Re: Sky Connect, Internet package from hell
Hey Garnman i see in your other thread you been with them a year, TBH if it wasn't for that fact money is a bit tight for me at the moment i would leave & go elsewhere.
SamKnows Broadband - Availability - Exchange Search
Dunno who's available at your exchange, Be comes recommended by my friends, how ever if your like me & can only get BT wholesale, I'd ask around see what people recommend.
Personaly, im going back to Demon when i can, it may not have been the fastest, but was reliable did not traffic shape, & on the rare occasion i had to phone them, i didnt spend ages on the phone in a cue.
