Re: Sky Connect, Internet package from hell

Just thought i would pop back in & let people know how its going having switched away from SKY connect.

I have been with Demon for over a month now & things are back to normal, Had the odd occasion with slow speed, but things seems to have settled down.
Pings are great & stable, finally i can enjoying gaming, & watching movie clips without problems again, where with SKY connect this was impossible & a misery.

OK im paying £17.99 a month instead of £10 but its worth it.
My only gripe is still for some reason during peak times my internet isnt as fast as the 2nd line in the house(BT unlimited), which gets great speeds approx 6mb even during peak times
I have my suspicions that when it comes to BT wholesale, BT keep most the speed for their own customers during peak time, I cant prove this but it wouldnt suprise me, but i'll be damned if im paying £28 month even if their Unlimited package has a 100gig usage a month, im quite happy paying £18 for my 50gig rolling 30day usage

I wish i could say something good about SKY's connect package, I suppose if you got it for £5month & only ever sent emails & did very basic things like view webpages then yeah i can see where it might appeal to some.
But my experience is, Connect is an awful package & does SKY no favours, it only gives them a bad name, i know it will be a cold day in hell before i ever consider SKY as an ISP again, i can honestly say i thought AOL was bad, but SKY connect really takes the biscuit

I can only hope someone reads my thread & the others like it & decides not to take Connect as their package, you have been warned!

On a lighter note, Thank you to all people here for providing a much needed Forum for SKY

Re: Sky Connect, Internet package from hell

You think you had problems! How about this!. Thought I would upgrade my present Sky package with multi-room, Sky Talk and free broadband. Done it all online, got the quotes and installation fees which I paid. "****" they delivered to equipment to the wrong address. Tried to re-book the engineer, hours on the phone at premium rates. They would not talk to me as my husband was the original account holder. I took over all his commitments and paid the bills for years "STALEMATE". They took over my BT line and internet access. Phone line working but now no internet for 2 weeks the kids are driving me potty!. Arranged to go back to BT, pestered by SKY to reconsider, told them to "EFF OFF" Had to fight to get my Mac number for the broadband. Lined up to use O2 but they can't do anything until BT line is live again. "GREAT NEWS" BT date a week away, "BAD NEWS" O2 can do nothing until line is live, then 7 to 10 days to revive after Mac number."**** ****" 5 weeks without broadband, dare not tell the kids. "****ING HELL"

Best thing you could ever have done leaving Sky, worst thing I ever done was being attracted to them by their costly media advertising. Would not now have them for FREE.

Hi what you should be looking at is does your exchanges have Sky LLU if your exchange is BATHGATE then Sky / Easynet: was Enabled as of 19/10/2006 you need to talk to Sky and ask about being moved over to Sky LLU if you want move information ask or start your own thread

Thanks for your reply Steve.my exchange is west calder so went on a site called samknows.they had all the exchange details and llu is not available,it also says that bt has wholesale coverage from there and that was actually a ofcom statement.thanks again.
Ofcom Classification.
Market 1
This exchange has BT Wholesale as the sole provider of broadband services.

Hi you can use this link SamKnows Broadband - Availability - Exchange Search all you need to do is add your exchange west calder and you will be able to see any changes at your exchange. a good idea is to book mark the link. Have a look at (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users will give you some information on leaving and getting a reduction on what you are paying.

Re: Sky Connect, Internet package from hell

I was on the sky connect package, but since last November, they have been traffic shaping me heavily and cutting my speeds from 6 MB to just under 0.9MB during peak times. So enough was enough I gladly migrated from them to XILO.
