Shall I or NOT ? Advice needed....
I was one of the first to be connected to Sky Broadband, it lasted less than 36 hours. During that time I was unable to connect to the home page to register, come to that I was unable to connect to anything. It then took 18 months to get the 'tag' removed from my line, which was no problem as I continued with NTL.
Why then am I considering returning to Sky Broadband? Am I daft? I may be, that's why I have asked you guys how things are now. I have a pal who lives several streets away who swears by Sky, unlike me when I swore at it.
Good or bad, let me hear it?
Thanks

Re: Shall I or NOT ? Advice needed....
Things have changed a LOT network-wise since Sky started selling Broadband. Come back, you'll like it.
That said, remember that Sky's responsibility ends at the router. If there was something wrong with your PC that stoped you browsing last time, it's up to you to fix.

Re: Shall I or NOT ? Advice needed....
Sky are by far the best of the three ISP's that I have had, the previous two cowboys being NTL and Plus net, in almost two years, we have had a solid connection normally at about 6mb, (It could be 8 but I can't be bothered to move the wiring) and only a handful of times when the system was down.
I had 2-3 weeks of problems initially, caused by difficulties registering which meant I couldn't set up additional e-mail addresses, but since then it has been trouble free. I would give it another try.

Thanks for the replies and comments.
Nigelh,
You say that you had problems adding additional addresses, as do I. I have received the notification of Sky ID but when I try to log in to finalize the account it tells me to wait.....and wait....and wait, till it times out. Was this similar to your problem if so how did you get round it?

Re: Shall I or NOT ? Advice needed....
Brian
My problems were two years ago, and iirc it was that the main account had been set up wrongly by Sky. Tier 1 support just kept resetting the password, and then when that didn't work, told me that they had passed it on. As with most users, I had no return call, I eventually lost patience, and sent a letter to James Murdoch, the problem was resolved within about two hours, I was never told how. It does sound as if you have a similar fault.
Do you actually need to register? I could use the internet I just couldn't get to add additional e-mail accounts, if I were to move again, I wouldn't bother with @isp.whatever addresses, I'd use live or g mail or similar, I don't remember having to register for internet use. I hope this helps

Re: Shall I or NOT ? Advice needed....
Think Brian means the mail box creation that occurs when you first log into sky email and tools. There was a known problem with that recently which should have been fixed now, there is also a better escalation route for email/ webmail problems which should see a call back within 24 hours from the escalation group.

Re: Shall I or NOT ? Advice needed....
Cheers Nigelh, sounds like you had a problem that was a little more complex than the one I am experiencing.
Paulsky, you are correct. So it is a known problem, I have e-mailed Sky so hopefully they will get back to me.
Thanks

Re: Shall I or NOT ? Advice needed....
I suspect that mine was caused by the Sales Rep changing Nigel to nigiel and making my surname even more strange, however as I say after a few weeks and a moan, it was fixed and other than a couple of account glitches this year which have all been resolved, our overall impression of Sky is good. We have the works, other than HD as I haven't yet managed to break our old CRT Sony. I have 2 or 3 colleagues also on Sky broadband, and very happy with it.
