Sky now use traffic shaping
Just found out tonight, through Sky Tier 3, that Sky, not BT, have been traffic shaping my line.
Why? Because I downloaded 30gb in a week in games via steam. This however is under my allowed 40gb but because it was heavy usage in a short period that have cut my bandwidth to such a point that I can bearly get 0.5meg and had frequent dc's. This is all because Sky have over subscribed to Connect users.
I'm not a happy bunny.
So I just thought it best that all you guys know who to point the finger at in future.
I'm off to BT, I'd rather deal with the organ grinder and not the monkey tbh.

Re: Sky now use traffic shaping
Nice of you to point this out, but....
Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
They may have used the 30gb dl as an excuse but I think you will find its a bit more deep rooted than that, as you hint at via oversubscibed connect.

It's not a hint. The guy even admitted that Sky had too many subs

Re: Sky now use traffic shaping
I meant you touched on the real reason, as has been discussed at length in the post I linked to.

Re: Sky now use traffic shaping
If this guy is who I think it is it was actually a combined 35GB in 5 days - these are the people Sky are clamping down on, but the capacity issue is the underlying problem...
to the OP, you can't really complain - you've left yourself with no allowance so another day raping the last 4-odd GB would've had you throttled anyway...

Re: Sky now use traffic shaping
I also have bandwidth problems however I am well under my cap.
My problems started in January and thus I contacted SKY they told me that I was being throttled by BT who own the equipement at my exchange.
When I pointed out that I was a SKY rather than BT customer and was paying SKY for a service they weren't supplying they said I would have to write in to complain. My ADSL connection is throttled nightly between 17:00 and 00:00 to below 1Mb/s i.e. not even ADSL MAX as per the advertisements.
I do not use any bit torrent software whatsoever and yet I am not getting what I paid for.
SKY told me that BT were throttling all ADSL services including those of other ISPs, if I was still a BT customer I would have simple rang up and got them to sort my connection out however SKY will not contact BT nor sort my problem out, they say it just the way it is. The strange thing was my BT boradband neighbours did not have this problem.
Is it just me that thinks that this is a disgrace or is this what SKY customers expect for their money?

Re: Sky now use traffic shaping
It's not BT it's Sky, read this Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
I'm afraid the only thing Sky are going to take notice of is 1000's of you leaving.
And before anyone starts - no I dont agree with it.
