unhappy customer

has anyone else had a problem recording with a newly installed skyplus set top box. Engineer did replace the new box with another and also repaired a part on my dish, but it still is not working when you check error message it says "no signal being received."
Also the installers will not install the second feed along the route of my original (in my loft space) the insist it must be along the outside of my house , bore through outer wall through the insulation and also damaging interior decoration. This is completly unacceptable

Are you asking for help if so which bit do you need help with, if you're complaining you should do that to the corporate sky, this is an independent forum not affiliated to sky. Yes for health and safety reasons the engineers will not go into a customers loft and to be honest I don't blame them having finished up with one leg each side of a joist.
Merry Xmas

Re: unhappy customer

Get the installers back in! It is their job to get the box working and they must fix all faults in the first 30 days.

I also had the loft problem, even though the loft is fully floored, he refused point-blank to enter it . In the end I had to put the cable in myself, terminating the ends at the dish and the box. After a long conversation with Sky , they told the installer to leave enough cable to do the job, so I was not out of pocket.

Re: unhappy customer

You seem to be saying that they fitted a quad LNB at the dish, but were unable to run a second feed from the dish to your Sky+ box because you refused to let them fit the cable.
Your box won't work properly until this work is done.
So as others have said you need to get them back.

Re: unhappy customer

Offer to pull the cable through the loft yourself!

I did, and they drilled the holes, and I pulled it through for them and I've got two tin knees! They were happy to do that as long as they didn't go into the loft!

Re: unhappy customer

As advised, most Sky installers will not run cables in the loft and you must have two connections to your Sky+ receiver for it to work correctly.

How are you planning to get the cable from the loft down to the receiver once it is in there?

Nearly all Sky installs have the dish feeds extenally and then run in via hole, they do have brick plates for th outside if needed and also put covers on the inside to keep it as neat as they can but the cables have to get there somehow.

As suggested, you may be forced to run the cable in yourself if you insist on keeping it internal or pay an outsourced contractor to do it for you.

Re: unhappy customer

Thanks to all who sent replies.
Well I have gone from unhappy customer to a satisfied one.
Reason :- 2 different engineers arrived yesterday and the fitted up my second line, and they went into the loft so no boring through walls. These guys said they regurarly have to enter loft space to connect up and they called the original installers "a bunch of cowboys who give the rest of us a bad name".
As has been suggested the system now works fine with the second line installed.

However because of the problems I had I have posted a registered letter to Sky complaints department. I await the outcome in due course .

Re: unhappy customer

Sky complaints department phoned me on Monday evening (the day they received the letter) and offered one months free worth £57. I did tell the person they should not use the original installers, but this was not his dept. he said. If more people complain about poor/inadequate installation, surely Sky will get the message !!!!

Re: unhappy customer

I have had 2 engineers out to my house and neither have really been any good. Are these guys from sky or are they contractors?

I am in the process of sending in a complaint.
