Angry Argh! Damn Speed!

Hey Guys, I'm new here, so please be nice.

I've had Sky for about 3 years now, and Broadband for about 2...
They have all been running perfectly until just last month, once I got back from my holiday abroad. I'm on Mid package by the way.

Before i got back, download used to be 4mb, upload at least 300kb, now..you will be disgusted at what it's turned to...
Download is now in a range of 27kb - 95kb
Upload is now 3kb - 11kb

Here is some info to help:

I would've contacted SKY, but can't seem to find time.
But I will definitely call up BT and SKY after I get some useful words from you as your words are guaranteed to be better then the rubbish from those businesses. xD

Please, does anyone have any advice / solutions etc
I will be glad with any help at all
Cheers

Re: Argh! Damn Speed!

To rule out internal wiring faults, plug the router into the Test socket and take the stats from there. Post back here.

Re: Argh! Damn Speed!

Wile I was waiting for an answer, I went out and got another cable, (connecting the Router to phoneline), connected it, and it's all back to normal

So thanks for your help, maybe this could be a solution.

However, when I went out, two guy probably in the thirties started to chase me on their bikes, asking me if I wanted to buy a bike...stupid retards thought that just because I was young, I'd fall for it..I was on a damn bike myself!
So obviously they were trying to nick mine..
With my bike in such a state, I raced home A.S.A.P
A note to those guys: Suckerzz!

The stats at the moment are:

Re: Argh! Damn Speed!

Question:

Whats better? A higher or lower noise margin?

Re: Argh! Damn Speed!

It's not quite as simple as that. High is good but not at the expense of speed - see the first sticky in my signature for a fuller explanation.

Looking through the posts it seems fairly clear that there's a wiring problem. Possibly the cable you refer to. I suspect there's still a problem though as your noise margin shouldn't have changed so much since the previous post.

Secondly, your stats show that your connection is capped at 6144kbps. Sort the wiring problem and get uncapped. You should then get approx 8meg.

Lastly, if you're on Mid, please change your Skyuser profile accordingly. Thanks,

Re: Argh! Damn Speed!

Hmm..
I think it may be the heat around the wire causing this, as I've got the central heating pipes located close to my cable, very close.
I'll see what I can do, maybe get a professional piece of wire and get the wire pinned along the edge of the ceiling to my computer..maybe then I can get 8meg :hope:

I shall soon be leaving Sky, for O2...as it's such a big hit, and get BT to do something about the socketing, so I may be able to get a higher range of speed

Re: Argh! Damn Speed!

And sorry,
According to BT Wholesale, my phone line should be able to support a 5Mbps or faster connection via ADSL Max.
I am approx. 1.5km away from the exchange, and my exchange should have WBC services (ADSL2+) available by the 30th of November 2008

Nothing wrong with o2, heard nothing but good reports about them, however the limiting factor is your line att which wont change just by changing isp. So dont expect too much more.
