Terrible speeds

Hello,
Now I am a person who does not want to complain but since last July I have never gotten anything over 80kbps when downloading! 1 month I was getting 15 kbps and now I barley scrape 30kbps. Currently I am getting this:
DownStream Connection Speed 320 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

Now I live about 15 minutes by car from quite a big town and I am sure that it's not too remote. My question is what's causing it?

Re: Terrible speeds

are you on Mid or Connect? the upstream would suggest Connect...

however, if you can post stats from the router (noise margin/attenuation/etc) it'll help...

*to get stats, go to http://192.168.0.1 using admin as the username and sky as the password, and click 'show statistics' at the bottom of the router status section...

Re: Terrible speeds

are you setup in your master socket (or even better test socket)? if not, probably best to move it there as you should be able to get about 5Mbps with an attenuation like that...

Re: Terrible speeds

if you have a test socket, try it there...

it's the noise margin (SNR) we're interested in as if it goes up considerably then there's a wiring issue...

Re: Terrible speeds

I tried testing it on the master socket (and every other socket) and it seemed like it didn't want to work on them. After 20 minutes the connection light was still blinking orange.

Re: Terrible speeds

Looks like another Connect screwup Maybe one day Sky will give some guidance to Connect customers right from the start. It would save them a lot of problems.

Go to BT Speedtest enter your phone number then your ADSL username. This will do an official BT speed test and show your present profile. Your ADSL username is <the MAC number of your router, no colons, followed by> @skydsl You can also obtain this from the router by using one of the utilities available on the forum.

You should be able to use this report when phone Sky, but it will depend on who takes your call as Sky TS do not seem to be trained for Connect customers. This tester is always busy, it could take several attempts to get on.
