Very slow connection ...

I've been with Sky for a few months after a 6 month nightmare with BT getting it installed. All was well for a few months, I was getting a reasonable 6Mb/s on my 16Mb/s unlimited account.

Now my line speed has dropped to 507Kb/s - Sky support responded very promptly, but the answer is:

>Thank you for contacting Sky Broadband Technical Support.
>
>Our automatic Line Management Tool is currently in the process of
>tuning your connection to create the fastest and most stable connection
>possible on your line.
>
>This optimization is usually completed within a maximum of 8 to 10 days
>but can, on occasion, take up to 20 days from when it started.

So for up to 20 days the 16Mb Max connection I'm paying for is 1/2Mb ... This is not acceptable - why can't I get compensation for this? And this is all being done for my benefit! Not impressed ... anything I can do?

Re: Very slow connection ...

Have a look for DLM, and you will see lots of info on this site about whats happening.

should only take 20 days from what i have seen, but you may then need to phone them if your connection speed has not returned to the previous.

anything I can do?
you could just wait, or if you feel that strongly about it, you could ask to terminate your contract and find a new ISP.
i myself would wait and see how it goes, i do think this may benifit users in the future, but do wish sky would have sent info to let people know what they were trying to do

Re: Very slow connection ...

Richone54, I'll certainly wait a while longer ... it's just a pain to run at 507K when I was getting 6+M!

As you say, an email warning of what was happening/explanation would have helped!

James

Re: Very slow connection ...

i would not condone it, but some have phoned to complain and have had some sort of recompense (i would leave it myself, as this will be flaged on your account and should you ever want to "get something" in the future it may go against you)

Re: Very slow connection ...

So how do we know this line degradation has finished? Does the line speed increase by itself or do you have to reboot or reset the connection?

This has taken 17 days so far and still an appalling service!

"Flagged on my account" that I want something similar to what I'm paying for ... and this may be held against me. God helps us!

speed should increase back to near what you had, check your stats to see if you are still on ADSL, can take up to 20 days

i was just refering to if you had anything off for this, it may stay as a note on your account and if say, you tried to blag an upgrade or tried to get something cheaper in the future it may show as goodwill gesture already given (but this is only my personal view, i have no eveidence and would not know if it does happen like that)

Re: Very slow connection ...

Cheers richone ... I'm already on Max so I'm not after an upgrade - just what they are contracted to provide and what I am paying for.
