Bye Bye Sky
I have persevered for long enough now!
I recently emailed Sky using the "contact us" form on their web site explaining my unhappiness with the service I have received over the last few months and after a month still have not even had an acknowledgement.
My bb service has been dreadfully slow and continually disconnects. I get less than an hours use of the internet and I have to reboot the router. It makes no difference if I am using the computer or not, the connection just goes and I can do nothing unless I unplug the router from the power supply.
I sent Sky am email just after i had paid my lates bill asking them to respond to me (and not just to send me 0870 contact numbers) and they have shown no interest in me as a customer (bb for 14 months and TV for longer) so as the new bill lands in my intray next week I will be giving them their months notice and seekiing a more reliable ISP.
We have no cable supplier in the area so it has to be a telephone line based connection, just don't know who yet.
Bye bye Sky and thasnks for showing the interest you have(not)

Re: Bye Bye Sky
Problem is if it's your line causing the problem you may have the same problems elsewhere. I admit Sky customer service aint up to much but neither are many of the others including BT who have call centre's abroad who seem to be clue less! In my opinion it would be worth doing some basic checks yourself b4 jumping ship, if not then good luck.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and ask for help. I hate using the 0870 "rip off numbers" as much as the next person but Sky are the only ones that can help why bother emailing the, I was at my brothers earlier trying to sort his problems, random disconnections and the like and unlike you he phoned Sky and fingers crossed that have sorted it for him, all for the cost of a phone call and with no need to move to another ISP.

Re: Bye Bye Sky
Thats the whole point he's trying to make , why should he be forced to use an 0870 number which can be quite expensive when an e-mail should do the same job i.e Alert Sky to the users line probs.
I received a letter last week from sky telling me that they had received a direct Debit cancellation mail from the bank etc , yet my bank affirmed the DD was still active and NO correspondence had been sent out.
After over an hour on the 0870 numbers to 3 various Sky CS reps I finally got one to believe me that it was SKYs fault and not mine.
It has cost me over an hour of 0870 calls , 15 mins of 0845 calls , one morning off work and a new ( whilst cancelling the one that Sky said was cancelled ) direct debit mandate setup , to solve a mistake which had nothing to do with me.
I have stated I expect to be compensated for this.
Although i am now expecting another ( true this time ) letter stating a DD cancellation etc.
Quite right sticking by your guns mate and not accepting this 0870 crap.

Re: Bye Bye Sky
BT are spinning this quite nicely. There's always been a complaint over 0845 and 0870 numbers that they were launched as "local call rate" and "national call rate" numbers, but whereas the costs of local calls and national calls have plummeted, the cost of 0845 and 0870 calls have not dropped with them, effectively making them premium numbers. Companies using these numbers even get a share of the extra revenue generated from people calling them.
Ofcom said that it wanted this situation to change, so that revenue sharing would no longer be permitted on 0845 and 0870 numbers, effectively reducing the costs to those of local and national calls, as they were when they were first launched. The only difference between dialling an 0870 and your auntie in Edinburgh would be that the call to you auntie would be taken out of any call allowance in your phone plan, but the 0845 call would not.
But the phone companies protested, and said they needed time to adjust to the new call charges, and Ofcom, being the gutless organisation they are, agreed to give them 18 months, and that 18 months is now just about to run out.
So with the money for revenue sharing reduced to nothing anyway, it wasn't a big leap for BT to offer these services for free. Of course, the situation for other ISPs is different. An 0800 number is something that you have to pay for, so instead of making money out of call charges, they will have to pay money for those calls. BT on the other hand, own the network all the way from your house to their call centre, so it's not such a big overhead for them - effectively they lose out of the opportunity to make money of a local-rate call, whereas other ISP will have to pay more than a local-rate call charge for their 0800 support numbers.

tbh, if someone wants to leave then im not going to try and con the into staying - better to be honest then fob it off to someone else!!
also, how much do BT charge for BB as opposed to Sky? a lot less so Sky have to make up the cost somewhere - in this case calls to Sky...
