Sky News Celebrates Five Royal Television Society TV Journalism Awards

      https://corporate.sky.com/media-cent...rnalism-awards

On Wednesday night the strength of Sky News' journalism was recognised when the channel took home five RTS Journalism awards, including four awards never won before by the channel.Lisa Holland, Senior News Correspondent, won the Specialist Journalism award for her hard hitting coverage of the migrant crisis. One of Lisa’s reports – Rescue in the Aegean - also won TV News Story of the Year at the Foreign Press Association Media Awards late last year.

Faisal Islam, Political Editor, won Interview of the Year for his interview with David Cameron ahead of last year’s EU Referendum. Judges said Faisal ‘brought new insights and energy to the national debate’.

Sky News also enjoyed team successes winning Scoop of the Year for the channel’s IS Files revelation led by Chief Correspondent Stuart Ramsay, and the Breaking News Award - an award created in 2016 - for the Brussels airport terrorist attack.

Sky News also won the News Technology Award for Sky Data - a cutting edge innovation allowing Sky News to poll mass data.

John Ryley, Head of Sky News, commented
: 'These 5 wins come from a record 9 nominations and are a reflection of the strength and breadth of our journalism. I am particularly proud we won four awards we have not had recognition for before. Our success reflects the continual hard work of the team, our evolution as a news organisation and our capacity for renewal.'

Media like sky also for some reason do not report on things going on,for example showing protests in USA but nothing about protests/riots in a major euro capital and other districts of a country 21 miles from the english border.

BBC also seem to ignore this story which has been going on at times for around 3 weeks.

There are many news stories which we never get to hear about in this country.

Often there are things which are covered better by the press in other countries which we should know about. This can be for political reasons it can be for financial.

I have often picked up the fact that stories which might be considered detrimental to both Sky and BBC aren't shown on their own channels.

Sky is a uk base news channel, so expect it to be directed more to a uk audience.
BBC news overnight takes a lot of the bbc world news feed if that is what you are interested in.
Its not as though we are short on sky of many US, European, middle eastern and other news channels if that is what you want.
It certainly is not hard with a quick google to find worldwide news if you are interested.

I for one do wish the UK news channels would tone down or stop this Trump obsession, its getting tedious.

I would have thought a few mentions of the france/paris troubles would be of interest to uk citizens who do nip across the channel now and again

Re: Sky News Celebrates Five Royal Television Society TV Journalism Awards

Annoyingly we do get too much rubbish about Trump at the moment. Frighteningly it is possilbe that what he's doing might be copied over hear. I've also picked up the Farage is in his pockets too.

The politics of Europe are in a great deal of flux at the moment. There is much ill feeling about the British leaving the EU and even more ill feeling about the immigrants. From my understanding Merkel is unlikely to get in and the far right is likely to win in Germany. As for France it could be a similar story for Le Pen in France.

We see very little of this type of news and it could have huge consequences for us in the UK.

The Express did cover a story about the riots in France last month. I don't recall seeing anything on the TV though.

Still today NI has an election. I suspect that whatever the result is it'll be on the news tomorrow.
