Sky Arts launches Master of Photography, the first European TV talent show for photographers

      https://corporate.sky.com/media-cent...-photographers

Master of Photography, the first European TV talent contest open to both professional and amateur photographers, comes to Sky Arts in spring 2016.

The competition has been created by the Sky Arts Production Hub, a commissioning and production centre of excellence dedicated to creating quality arts programmes for Sky’s 21 million customers across the UK and Ireland, Italy, Germany and Austria.

In the show, which will feature special guests including international photographers and celebrities, a committee of photography and art experts will select a final line-up of 12 contestants, who will compete for the title of Best New European Photographer and the biggest prize ever offered in a European photography competition: €150,000. The winning photograph will also be donated to a prestigious museum for display.

Aspiring contestants can submit entries for the competition from Tuesday 10 November 2015 via the show’s website, www.masterofphotography.tv. Applicants must complete the form and supply a portfolio containing a minimum of five photographs, along with a brief video presentation. The deadline for submissions is Thursday 10 December 2015.

Phil Edgar-Jones, director of Sky Arts, commented:
“The European photography scene is incredibly active and we can’t wait to uncover some exciting new talent on Masters of Photography. Whether you are a budding amateur or an experienced professional, we’d love to hear from you and so please do get in touch.”

The Sky Arts Production Hub will focus on producing pan-European events for customers across all Sky territories in addition to content locally commissioned. The arts initiative is one of the first major projects to come out of the newly enlarged Sky group and demonstrates the opportunity to launch new services to more customers. By bringing the three Sky businesses together, Sky is sharing its strengths and expertise to extend its lead in content and accelerate innovation across all the markets in which it operates.

Sky arts are getting carried away with these reality show, portrait artist, landscape artist and guitar star. All have been pretty dull.
Do enjoy the channel, especially the classic rock/pop concerts, music/art documentaries and some of the theatre and plays.
Glad they shoved a lot on demand and toned down the Andre Rieu stuff.
Do see sky arts for me as what BBC used to do with the arts years ago along with shows like arena and omnibus.
Some on bbc4, but rarely feel the urge to watch it regularly.

I appreciate the sentiment. This is however a great opportunity for anyone who has an interest in photography. A €150,000 prize is currently worth around £106,620.

Unfortunately the pound has become a little stronger recently so we Brits might lose out a little if the trend continues like this for when the prize is awarded.

Did not realise that this was a pan European show, until you pointed that out, interesting.
Must be a first for sky.
Bit ironic on the day Cameron lays out his EU demands.
Suppose sky are going to support staying in the EU, I will have to disagree on them with that.

      You will be entering then
Send in your recent cruise videos and pics, be a great series, shame we cant vote for you.

Send between 5 and 10 of your best photos, along with a short video about yourself (maximum lenght 2 minutes). Your entry will be judged by photography experts from across Europe, after which you will find out if you’ve made the cut.
      Then the real challenge begins.
Over the course of 8 weeks, we will test the creativity, instinct and versatility of our 12 finalists.
That is their spelling error in the quote, not mine. Quite a few I noticed on the show website that links to sky italia.

Re: Sky Arts launches Master of Photography, the first European TV talent show for photographer

Earlier this year Sky did state that they would be creating more joint shows for all their European subscribers. Previously they have simultaneously broadcast shows in each market at the same time.

Certainly this will be the first competition though.

I've no plans on entering. You wouldn't like me on the other side of the camera.

It is possible that the page wasn't composed by someone whose first language is English, hence the typos. A lot of software doesn't have built in spell checkers, so unless they were careful, it could have been missed that way too.

From memory Sky Arts is now based in Italy for all the whole of Europe.
