Feature documentary premieres 9pm, 21st September on Sky Atlantic

Critically acclaimed feature documentary Going Clear: Scientology and The Prison of Belief, which is a Sky Atlantic co-production from Academy Award™ winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, triumphed at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards™ last night. The film was nominated for seven Awards and won in three categories:

      Alex Gibney

Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special - 2015
Chris Wilson, Executive Producer; Sheila Nevins, Executive Producer; Sara Bernstein, Supervising Producer; Alex Gibney, Producer; Lawrence Wright, Producer; Kristen Vaurio, Producer

Outstanding Directing For Nonfiction Programming - 2015
      Alex Gibney, Director

Celia Taylor, Sky’s Head of Non-Scripted Commissioning, and executive producer on Going Clear : Scientology and the Prison of Belief commented
“I am so pleased and proud that the Emmy Awards™ have recognised the creative quality and power of Going Clear. Winning these awards is a fantastic achievement for this film and also a recognition of Sky Atlantic’s commitment to supporting the world’s most creative talent to produce brilliant and compelling content. Alex and the team can now add these awards to the critical acclaim they’ve already gathered and I’m sure the wins will encourage UK audiences to watch it next week.”

Going Clear: Scientology and The Prison of Belief receives its UK TV premiere at 9pm on 21st September on Sky Atlantic. An extraordinary and powerful film, it highlights the Church’s origins - from its roots in the mind of founder L. Ron Hubbard to its rise to popularity in Hollywood and beyond. It intimately profiles eight former members of the Church of Scientology, shining a light on how the organisation attracts true believers and the things its members do in the name of religion.

At the heart of the film is a series of shocking claims (which are denied by the Church) by former insiders, including high-ranking and recognizable members such as acclaimed screenwriter Paul Haggis (Crash) as they describe a systematic history of abuse and betrayal by Church officials, including the current leadership of the church.

Based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright, Going Clear: Scientology and The Prison of Belief is produced by Jigsaw Productions for Sky Atlantic.

Good grief, what a bore and what a waste of the sky Atlantic pot of money.
Should be on one of the many reality or oddball channels.
