Or do what I did on my old property.

Went to the street during a week and found a BT / whatever they are called now van and spotted a guy doing something at a metal box in the street. Roughly asked whether he was interested in sorting out a minor problem (new socketrs, cabling, change master outlet, drill through some walls etc.) in a new flat I had nearby in exchange for a few beer vouchers.

Took him maybe 20 minutes, would have taken me forever and had to buy the tools, phoning BT would have cost loads and he didn't even want to accept the 20 I offered him as he thought it was too much.

Having opted out using the web link in the first post, has anyone received any kind of confirmation?

I haven't but then theyre customer services is so poor I'm not expecting one.

No doubt this part will lead to a colossal number of phone calls & emails when they ignore all these opt out & transfer people anyway & until someone tries to leave we won't know.

Question Re: Skys New Phone and Broadband Network Opt-out Poll

Another thought, I am tied in to a 12 month Sky Talk line rental contract. Would I still be able to move to O2 broadband? (My phone line still under "OpenReach")?

Re: Skys New Phone and Broadband Network Opt-out Poll

      Yes dgilbert2,

If you are out of your 12 month broadband contract then you should be able to move your broadband to o2.

To prevent buying out your sky talk calls package, you will have to stay with this until your 12 months is up.

If you have sky talk line rental, make sure you either move ur broadband by 1st august, or opt-out and take a screen dump of the confirmation screen.

To move your broadband, request a MAC code from sky broadband, then give this to o2 when you join and your switch should be seamless.

Re: Skys New Phone and Broadband Network Opt-out Poll

      OK, I've opted out ...
Since the only benefit listed (voiceMail over Web) is something which I am unlikely to take advantage of and no other benefits has been released which might benefit me and my Broadband connection I feel that having the option to migrate with little or no hassle or expense far outweighs any benefits listed
edit 1: Bugger ... forgot to screen shot it
edit 2: OK, went back through my history and got one

Re: Skys New Phone and Broadband Network Opt-out Poll

One quick test for those who want to check whether they have been shafted with the new network when the time comes without their knowledge - call 1571 and listen to the voice.
If you are on a wholesale call package provided over the Openreach network, you will hear the standard BT lady's voice saying "welcome to your messaging service".

If you are on the new Sky network when the time comes, this will change. Remember that sky will be providing their own dial-tone and services, rather than the unbranded Wholesale Line Rental 3 fanfare from Openreach.

Re: Skys New Phone and Broadband Network Opt-out Poll

Sorry for the thread resurrection but I just though that I'd mention that if you come back to Sky Broadband after having left them it appears that they will attempt to migrate you to the Sky Voice and Broadband Network away from BT without informing you and despite having opted out.

But if you left then the opt out wouldn't stay valid and I don't think you have this choice now for new signings.

Re: Skys New Phone and Broadband Network Opt-out Poll

I never left them as a customer for my line rental on my telephone line ... that is what the opt out covered and as such my contract with Sky remains unaltered.

      edit: and I quote ...
      You have opted out.
We have received your request not to be transferred to the new Sky Voice and broadband network. Your Sky Talk service will continue to be delivered using the Openreach network rather than Sky's own network.
