      SkyHd slow?

I got a free skybox but the dude removed the hard drive. Which I don't care about but it's very slow. It worked perfect for a bit then it slowed, system reset, reinstalled and tried to update but it's still slow. Any ideas?

      Re: SkyHd slow?

If it is a Plus box it is a wonder it is working at all without a hard drive, normally you would get an error message or it just would not work. Are you sure the previous owner did not remove the drive and replace it with another?

Well I took it apart since the seal was broken already and he's removed the sata cables and the hard drive.

      Re: SkyHd slow?

What is the model and number? If it is fairly new my advice would be to put a HDD in it and see if that helps. There is not a lot more you can do.

For make and model number check system details page.
Services 03 select. You may have to scroll to the second page using ch- for make.

      Re: SkyHd slow?

It looks like a fairly new box. You should understand that even if you put a HDD in it you will not be able to use the record/playback functions unless you have a Sky subscription or pay them a monthly fee. Did the previous own say why he had removed the HDD?

Looks like a DRX890 to me, so fairly new.

Sky+HD boxes cache the epg on the hard drive to speed up the TVGuide and allow the use of Mini TV while recording.

Without a drive the box will need to tune to the default transponder each time you go into the TVGuide in order to download the full 7day TVGuide.

The next 12hrs of epg data is broadcast on all transponders.
