Question Shared Flat with TV, Sat and DAB feed not working correctly

      Hi,

I moved into this flat around 4 years ago. It has a shared communal dish with a single feed to each flat. Behind my TV, there is a fixture with DAB, TV and Sat marked on it. When Sky was installed, the engineer managed to break the Sat socket and so removed the plate and took off the 3-way splitter thing to connect Sky directly to the single feed that originally went into that splitter.

It was fine at the time, I had no use for the normal TV aerial or DAB. Now though I do want the TV aerial to be transmitted around the flat along with the Sky that already is, so I want to get it working. Looking at the 3-way splitter, it actually seems fine and I have it connected up the way it should be and Sky works through it, just not the aerial. I have bought a new 3-way splitter and I get the same result, Sky without the TV aerial.

Does anyone have any ideas why this 3-way splitter cannot provide me with the TV aerial I need?

      Thanks in advance!

Re: Shared Flat with TV, Sat and DAB feed not working correctly

Under normal circumstances you should be able to feed the TV Aerial to the UHF Input at the back of the Sky STB, using a male-male TV Aerial lead.

From there you can take the UHF2 output to a Booster, which in turn would feed all the other TVs in your flat. UHF1 output would go to you main TV. This would allow the Sky STB to forward the terrestrial TV signal to all the other TVs.

The feed for the Sky STB that connects to the LNB1 input is from a Dish and will be quite different to the terrestrial aerial.

The 3-way splitter is probably designed to act as the splitter from the Aerial In to feed the different TVs.

If this doesn't help, could you post some photos of the wall socket so that perhaps someone else can recognise what you have.

Re: Shared Flat with TV, Sat and DAB feed not working correctly

Hi Scubbie, thanks for the reply.

I have attached a photo of the wall socket. Behind the wall socket are two coaxials, one of them is from the "Return" socket which sends the feed to another socket in my bedroom. The other coaxial goes into the 3-way which is the triangle of Sat, TV and DAB in the photo.

I have the Sat going into the Sky box of course. I have the TV socket connected to Aerial In on Sky box and then RF2 is connected to the Return socket in the wall.

I am able to get the Sky picture in my bedroom, but I am not able to get freeview channels which I would have expected to since the Sky box has the Aerial In feed. I can't figure out why this doesn't work?

      Thanks again.

Have you checked that the Terrestrial TV Feed works?

If you have Freeview on the main TV, could you plug the lead directly into the main TV and tune it in to Freeview.

Don't forget too that the Sky STB broadcasts on an analogue channel so you will need to swap between analogue and digital.
