      Tuner problem or not ?

      Hi all.

I've just aquired a Sky+ HD box (Amstrad DRX780UK) that is displaying the "No satellite signal is being received" message on screen.

I've connected it up to a known good set up done all the resets etc, etc and it's still displaying the aforementioned message.

within the menu It shows no signal strength or lock on either input.

The only thing I can tell you about the box is what has be related to me, that is, apparently the box was working fine and was being used as a freeview box as the Sky contract had expired.

The box then started showing the "No satellite signal is being received" message although the TV listings were still available for a short period of time.

Since the TV listings became unavailable the box will only show the (Empty) menus and the "No satellite signal is being received" message.

Is this definately a tuner related problem or could something other that the tuner(s) be causing the problem.

Your help / advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you and regards, The Soulman.

      Quite a few possible faults:

      • Dish out of alignment
      • Faulty LNB
      • Faulty connections at LNB
      • Faulty connections at STB
      • Damaged cable.

      To name just a few.

As in the original post, I've connected it up to a known good set up, done all the resets etc, etc and it's still displaying the "No satellite signal is being received" message.

This rules out all of the above.

Pop open the lid and see if you can see any capacitors on the PSU that are bulging or leaking. Thomsons are not the only boxes to suffer from this, other makes of box do as well, although not on the same epic scale as the Thomsons. Or maybe the tuner or some other component is faulty. Frankly it's anyone's guess, especially as you say it was previously working before you bought it.

You could also try another hard drive if you have one.
      Panasonic TX-P50G10B, Onkyo HTS 3305, Sky+HD Thomson 4E3007 (with upgraded PSU & WD5000AVDS HDD),

Check that LNB power and 22kHz are set to ON in the Installer Setup Menu. A frequent cause of problems.
