Loss of channels - any ideas?

      Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone had any advice on this one...

Last night was flicking between the Andy Murray epic on BBC1 and the under 21 final on SkySports 1. Around about 8.30 I suddenly lost BBC1 and BBC2 and got the no sat signal received message. This was on my Sky + box and also on my second digibox. I wondered if maybe there were storms around so just switched to Freeview.

However the weather ended up being pretty good last night and it's been blue sky all the way today - and I'm still missing these channels. Turns out there's a few others gone as well, including:

      BBC 1
      BBC 2
      Virgin 1
      Virgin 1 +1
      Comedy Comedy Central +1
      Sci Fi +1
      ITV 2 +1

Tried resetting the LNB this afternoon and channels did come back about 20 mins after I did. But not for long - now they've gone again.

Any ideas what would cause this?

      Thanks in advance

Good chance it's the lnb if both boxes have the same problem.

If your dish is accessible it's easy enough to change.

All channels are low band horizontal. As its on more than one box you can pretty muh guarantee its the LNB. New one required.
There is no p in Thomson.

      Thanks guys.

I had an engineer out for a "There is a fault with this channel" issue a few weeks back. He replaced the box - a Thomson - with a reconditioned Amstrad and he also said he'd changed the LNB when he went to check the dish so, in theory, it's only a few weeks old.

Is it something that could go wrong that quickly?

In theory yes but did you see him change it? Also if he did are you sure it was a new one?

I've seen similar problems like this before and it's been corroded cables or joins in the cable outside and the rain has got in.

I'd give the engineer a call back, maybe the cables need replaced.
