Has anyone on the cheaper packages had the letter with their increases? So as to document the changes to the pricing as from September.

re: Sky tv price increase 1st September 2009

      The letter is so confusing:

It tells me that my TV cost will go to 38.50.So the monthly charge will be 53.25.

      I guess this 53.25 = TV + Multiroom + ADSL Mid.

      Not easy to follow.

It goes on to mention that as I am on a special 6 mth deal I will only pay 40.55.

Further down in mentions about VAT changes and then of course the Jan 2010 tells me the price is 54.00

      Can't cope.

AS usual Sky do not operate a Crystal Clear policy. They certainly don't display the logo.

Time to go cutting Movies that should dave me a few quid.

I have 6 mixes and Base.
No mention of previous price just the increase from 1st September of Sky TV sub to 22.50.
      Total amount will be 27.50.

Now obviously Sky's systems aren't clever enough to know that I pay by credit card as at the moment it is 21.50 (TV) + 5.00 (Broadband) + 0.50 (credit card surcharge) = 27.00.

I expect the post September price will actually be 28.00

The post VAT increase price is given as 28.00 which will be 28.50 for me.

Just out of interest I have gone back over the last fifteen years for the month of May.
I went digital in November 1998.

      1994 6.98
      1995 9.99
      1996 10.99
      1997-2001 11.99
      2002 16.00
      2003 18.50
      2004-2005 19.50
      2006-2008 21.00
      September 2008 22.00 (Price increase)
      May 2009 27.00 (VAT reduction,Base charge,credit card surcharge)

This still doesn't make sense as I am only seeing a 50p increase which is because the VAT is going back up.

Angry Re: Sky tv price increase 1st September 2009

We are more than a bit *****ed off as our Sky+ (2 packages) contract only started on June 10th and we now have a notification of an increase! We signed up at 17.50 and it will be 18.50 from September, that will show in our August bill, then 19 from January! So that's 5.4% now or 7.89% by January. If the January increase is supposed to be because of the VAT I calculate that the pre-VAT amount of the 18.50 is 16.09. Add 17% VAT should = 18.90 so they adding on a bit here as well. Shysters!!!

Anyway, it's nice to join your merry band.

      Des.

P.S. My Brother warned us about signing up & then having price increases. Sorry, Joe. You were right.

Re: Sky TV price increase 1st September 2009

      Just one small point

The rate of inflation is calculated on a "basket" of costs and services so it is some rather meaningless value to most people.

In my case I do not have and kids to look after or a mortgage but I do have to survive on a pension so my rate of inflation is totally different from that of a young family trying to get by with kids and a large mortgage. My pension has gone up about 3% but the interest from my savings has gone down about 95% over the last few Years.

This all leads up to my two questions-

Why should we think that the increased cost of the Sky services or any other service or product should bear any relationship to the Government's rate of inflation? They are a company trying to maximise the profits for the shareholders, they are not a social service.

We must consider how long it was since the last rise and consider the increase over that period. This was the yearly increase may actually be much larger of much smaller than the quoted figure of 7%.
