Astra 5A Satellite Potential Impact on Customers

      Overview

On Wednesday May 7th Astra plans to activate 4 transponders on a new satellite ASTRA5A which is located at 31.5E, quite close to the satellites used by Sky.

      Impact on customers

It is unlikely that this will have any impact on Sky viewers at all, but there is a small possibility that customers with incorrectly aligned dishes in the Eastern part of the UK (mainly East Anglia and Kent) may suffer increased interference. This would manifest itself as increased picture blocking or in extreme cases No Satellite Signal.

The following is a list of channels that could possibly be affected by these new transmissions -

      408 Sky Sports HD1
      409 Sky Sports HD2
      112 LIVING
      113 LIVING +1
      114 LIVING2
      123 Bravo
      124 Bravo+1
      125 Challenge
      177 Trouble
      247 Challenge+
      593 Bravo
      594 Bravo+
      232 MTV Trax MTV Interactive
      340 MTV ONE
      340 MTV EIRE
      341 MTV ONE +1
      342 MTV BASE
      343 MTV HITS
      344 MTV DANCE
      345 MTV TWO M2
      346 VH1
      347 VH1 Classic
      348 TMF

      With thanks to our source.

I had no problems, I'm guessing a few others were also unaffected?
Some installers may know what they are doing?

yeh take that comment back just had sky+ installed about 1 hour ago installer who was employed by sky and not subcontractor, alligned new dish perfectly getting 90% signal strength on both inputs even outside his signal meter was giving very clear beeps as he moved dish around, but i have seen some friends that have had poor signal strengths which cause problems in very cloudy conditions
