Unhappy Conspiracy Theory

On Tuesday 13th March I received a call at 4.15pm from what I thought was a Sky representative informing me that my warranty on my Sky equipment had lapsed and do I wish to renew this. The guy was impolite and did not want any dialogue as to why I wouldn't be renewing this and that his manner contributed to this.
At 6.30pm my Digi Box went on the blink and after calling Sky I was told that an engineer was required. I told them that I was extremely suspicious that this failed two hours after refusing to renew the warranty and was told that this was another Company that handled this. The question I asked was how another Company got hold of my telephone number and was fobbed off with the usual stuff that suggested I granted permission within the contract. I DO NOT RECALL THIS and believe they are acting illegally.
What I would like to know "Has this happened to anyone else's "Digi" equipment or is this just a major unlucky coincidence?

Re: Conspiracy Theory

The calls come form outside companies as far as i know, we had one they were not from Sky, sound like an unlucky coincidence.Or they practice voodoo!

Re: Conspiracy Theory

Unlucky,

Sky don't do the extended warranty's is sat direct and another company with a similar name. They always call just before the warranty expires and they are all con artists in my opinion and should be avoided.

Slightly off topic, but since I joined sky I have had a number of calls from companies offering double glazing etc. I am exdir so can only think that sky are giving out my number - can I get sky to stop doing this ?
cheers

Re: Conspiracy Theory

Ther probably is a bit in the contract that says they may pas your details on the third party's. Ther is a number you can call to stop getting tele sales etc, If you call the operator and say your getting lots of these calls they will help stop them, and give you the number to call. Its all automated but it dose work.

Re: Conspiracy Theory

There was an artice I read recently where Sky had take this company to court and the basic outcome was that they can continue to trade so long as they do not keep cold calling people. I would provide a link but I can't remember where I read it, it was somewhere online though.
