Joining Sky - thought the box was free?

      Hello all!

Due to get my Sky+HD box and dish installed on Wednesday April 1st, and Sky have sent us a letter confirming my package (Original bundle, 21.50 per month) and cost of box (299). I'm hoping the latter is an early April Fool's joke - I was led to believe the box was free!

Anyway, just thought I'd ask if this is a standard thing; I imagine that my first bill will have a credit of 299 for the box or something similar. If not, I'll be cancelling fairly quickly...

Have a look at your mysky account and check the progress of your order.
You will see your first bill and package details in there with any adjustments.

Did you go for the free tv or 100 M&S e-Voucher or 100 Tesco Gift Card or 100 Amazon.co.uk Gift Certificate?
You must claim that reward online at www.sky.com/claim within 90 days of your service being activated.

Or did you get another new customer offer?

See, this is where it's all a bit weird. MySky is still showing "no orders" a week later - however I've received my viewing card etc. My guess is this is because it's not a Sky engineer fitting it, but a specialist team for flats. My bill is currently "0" however upon activation I guess this will change.

I'm going for the 32" TV, incidentally.

Ahh, here we are. The small print! "Free Sky Box and Minidish Offer"... "Offer is limited to one per household. The offer is not open to anyone who has previously signed an Interactive Discount Contract and/or whose household has previously benefited from one."

I had Sky at a previous flat, that'll be it. That's a shame. Looks like I'll need to cancel my order :-(

Re: Joining Sky - thought the box was free?

You shouldn't have any problems as they are a local firm who have a long standing relationship with Sky.
Sky's bills are not always too too clear especially where new equipment and installation are involved as can be seen from the following excerpt:
      Box Discount 06 Mar - 49.00
      Sky+HD Box Discounted 06 Mar - 100.00
      Promotional Installation Discount 06 Mar - 30.00
      Sky+HD Box Discounted 06 Mar - 150.00
      Sky+HD 06 Mar 299.00
but the bottom line should be the amount you expect to pay. You should also be aware that as you are required to pay for your services a month in advance the first two bills will arrive in quick succession.
